Anyone want to say if the books are at all good/substantial? That'd be the main reason to join.

Taure -- only one of the books that I've found is in a readable stage (others don't appear to be online as they aren't finished). The available one is a Transfiguration book that I'm looking through now. I'm on Chapter 4 (chapters are short).

Probably worth glancing at since it's 100% free and little time commitment (the money you're given for opening a vault is enough to purchase all the books, so you don't have to play the game). But I haven't found anything amazing yet.

Currently writing an opinion piece for Transfiguration on any loopholes I see in Gamp's Laws of Elemental Transfiguration - and I have to examine the impact that that law has in modern society versus society of the 10th century.

I already finished my assignments for lesson 1 of both Charms and History of Magic, and I've gotta say... I preferred those two. Charms seems like it's going to be a bit of fun, and even has some role playing involved. History of Magic seems pretty cool too, from what I can see - from the titles of the lessons, its going to be going over magical history pretty much all over the world.

One gripe I had with the first Charm's lesson is that it didn't delve much into, well, Charms. Next lesson apparently has the first spell, so I hope it'll talk about more magical theory. Though some parts of the lesson were pretty interesting - specifically why wands are used.

On the bright side, there are only two actually required assignments in Transfiguration, so I don't think I'll feel inclined to do ALL the work. I'll give it my best shot though.

For those interested in the books, I think there's only one official textbook up so far, but there are quite a few books written by students apparently. I haven't found anything particularly interesting, but I haven't really looked - nor do I plan to, honestly.

One thing I will say is that the lessons are actually pretty interesting to read, even if you aren't planning on doing the work. If you have a few moments to check it out, I wouldn't call it a waste of time.

Edit: It should be noted that there are now four books up -
A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration by Emeric Switch
A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot
From Alterations to Altercations: The Transfigurative Guide by Professor Henrick Darkstorm
    Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling
