Hey guys, we made a new video, just thought I'd stop by and pimp it out. It's about a Slytherin girl who sleeps with a Hufflepuff and has to the take the walk of shame back to her common room. Mild adult themes I guess, just in case the kids are around.:D

Took perhaps the most roundabout fuckin' way to get to the dungeons.

Yep. Creatively I would say it was because she was trying to avoid any and all contact with students and faculty.

The real reason is that we don't have access to real sets, so we have to use whatever is available in the movies, which is still a TON of work painting out all the extras that are in the shots to get a clean background plate. :)

Yeah, why would you go outside?

Also better a Gryffindor than a Hufflepuff. I mean who the hell would want those sloppy seconds?

You'd think she could brush her fucking hair with magic at least. Walking around the school disheveled and barefoot? Pfft. Sorting hat dun fucked up.

I find these videos, from a technical standpoint, fucking amazing.

    What exactly is the process?

I have to said its pretty impressive, it looks like she is really there, must have taken a lot of work to do that.

Really liked the part about the Quidditch Team.

    And I hope you continue.

Yeah, the song is what made the video for me. One of my favorite songs of all time, video was pretty decent as well.

Thanks for the comments! The process for this video was almost all greenscreen, there is some footage at the end of the video if you watch the credits. We're starting to post more behind the scenes stuff on our facebook page too, like us there!

To get the backgrounds I sat down and watched all the Harry Potter movies (fun weekend! :D ) and wrote down all the timecodes of the shots that would work well as backgrounds. We knew we needed some common room stuff, hallways, etc. I specifically looked for shots with no people in them, or very few people, and little or no camera movement.

Once I had all those, we shot our main actress on greenscreen and added her in. Here's an example:

Step 1. Find a shot that works. For this scene I found a nice shot of Cho from Order of the Phoenix. It's just her and the camera doesn't move. The movie aspect ratio is 2.35:1 (super widescreen) but we're shooting regular widescreen 16:9, so it gets cropped off a bit.

Step 2. Match the camera angle (really high up and looking down, we used the bleachers in the choir room at UNC Greeley (Colorado).

Step 3. Composite in our actress and remove Cho because she's looking a little too glum. She does, however, provide a great reference for shadows, so I can make the shadows of the actress match the scene.

Step 4. Use Photoshop to paint out Cho. Add some color correction and you're done!

I don't know, while the content was pretty good, the actual song was kind of boring for me. Also the static shot of the two singers was boring as hell. Every time they came on I switched tabs for a second.

    Good, but could be better.

    I actually liked the singers.

I didn't like the Quidditch players out jogging by the lake though. I was expecting her to take refuge in a magic trunk mansion.

Nice stuff. I think I'd have preferred a larger a capella-style arrangement to fill in some of the rhythm and harmony (like this), but this arrangement was still decent. And the visual side of it was great.

Everyone in the credits, plus me. It's mainly the two singers (Ginny and Dana) and I. They come up with the musical covers and I handle all the shooting, editing and VFX. We recruited friends and roommates to help out as actors, extras, sandwhich wranglers, etc.

A full choir would have been great, but those are hard to come by unfortunately.
