We’ve all been there.

We’ve turned on the tv on and flipped through all the channels. We’ve settled in on a channel we weren’t sure about. We’ve watched a terrible holiday movie. We’ve been there.

Whether it is the Yeti movie on SyFy or some truly deplorable Hallmark movie, please share movies, movie tropes, and other holiday film related things to avoid this holiday season.

 

Gremlins 2. Gremlins 1 was a funny horror movie. Gremlins 2 was just stupid and dumb.

 

Anyone who puts Jingle All The Way in here, the greatest Christmas film of all time, will make an irreconcilable enemy of me. Even though it’s pretty terrible.

Also..I might get hate for this one. But National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is dumb and a terrible movie.

 

A christmas story is dumb. I saw it once and hated it.

 

I may get some hate for this, but the one Christmas movie I cannot stand is It's a Wonderful Life. Largely because my parents loved it and made me watch it, multiple times, every Christmas growing up. I never liked it, and I'm so far beyond sick of it it's not even funny.

Which is probably why my Christmas movie tradition now is watching the first three Die Hard movies and enjoying the goofiness of it all.

 

Minnesota Cinema is the best Cinema. That Diner he goes to is amazing.

 

I just have a difficult relationship with holiday romcoms. They all basically go like:

• Woman is too busy for love or is “messy” in some way
• Goes home for Christmas
• Guy from small town she liked/disliked/etc. never left small town
• The “who is that?” Moment happens
• Blah blah blah something divorce something boyfriend who hates Christmas something too busy for this bullshit
• They kiss in the snow or something

But make it fanfiction and I’m like... hell, yeah. Hit me with holiday lesbians chopping wood and starting fires. The tropes are great. Trapped in a snow storm. Fake relationship. Sharing a bed for warmth. It’s all trashy romance novel stuff, but I’m a trash can and would like your trash.

 

Hallmark movies are just pornos without the sex.

That shit has NOT aged well. The animation will give you nightmares.

Is it weird that I have watched this every year, every Christmas or Boxing Day morning, for nearly 15 years thanks to the Christmas Story Marathon channels?

My mother was obsessed with this movie and made us watch it at least once a week around the holidays until DVD’s became semi-obsolete. It’s more of an acquired distaste than actual distaste compounded by the fact we don’t celebrate Christmas.

 

I've got around 13 years on my siblings and it was their favourite movie for like six months. I learned to like it.
