I think what Scrib was trying to say was that there may not be "Societies" as such outside of Europe. More like people who have magic keep to themselves and people who are born with magic keep to themselves and largely learn fuck all.

That idea is fucked in its very premise though simply by the fact that JKR clearly didn't believe that. There's a flying carpet trade for one. Trade is a basic part of society and flying carpets aren't usually made in Norway.

Also; wasn't there a mention of some non-european team being beaten in the Quidditch qualifiers? Or am i just thinking of Japan from Quidditch: World Cup? >_>

I'm pretty sure there was. Plus the World Cup referee was Egyptian.

And last I checked Chang, Li & Patil aren't European surnames. If I had to guess I'd say east Asia has a larger magical population.

I'd be very surprised if magical societies haven't sprung up in other parts of the world. Each culture has its own tales of magic, and they had to originate somewhere, and in the HPverse that could well be Wizards.

Yeah, it was mostly an afterthought, I hadn't read the books in so long I honestly couldn't remember, but yeah, I guess there are other magical societies.

But if I recall we haven't seen any other societies use magic so we can't tell if Latin is integral to the particular form of magic we've seen.

Wow, thanks. Thats great. Except that Taure has eight stories in the Library List, none of which is an essay on magic in canon. And he may have several essays in the General Fics section, except that there are eleven pages of threads. And it may not even be in General Fics- it may be in Harry Potter Work by Author, except that there are 47 pages of that and I'm not going through all of them to find one essay.

If you are going to say "go read this and then we'll talk" thats completely fine. I'm happy to do so, especially if its good. But you have to meet me somewhere in between by giving me the link, or at the very minimum which sub-forum it is, roughly how far back and the name of the thread.
