I actually remember very well. Technically DLP was recced by an author, I guess you could call it that. Swim mentioned DLP in some author's notes for Circular Reasoning. CR was the first DLP fic I ever read. That was around late 2008, early 2009, when I was writing my first shitty fic. I lurked for a good long while, but DLP seemed like a scary place full of sharp-tongued people and I was just entering the stage of actually using English, reading in English, watching movies without subtitles and such. Then a period of video games happened in high school, I forgot about DLP and fanfic for a while. In 2012 I resumed my lurkage and joined a few months later.

 

It's been a long time, so it's a bit fuzzy. Been reading fanfiction since at least 1999, although back then it was all anime and wrestling crap. HP fanfiction I got into post GOF, and I read a lot of it, often getting frustrated with it. I don't remember specifically which author it was, either Mehetabelo or Midknight, but that led me to Ravenclaw and DLP in 2005/2006 or so. I lurked for a few months reading recommendations and finally joined using the intro thread.

 

Came across Santi's BWL fanfic when I first started reading HP fanfics 2 years ago. When I looked for more information about it, whether it was abandoned or not, I stumbled across a mention of DLP and made my way over here. That's it.

 

I think in the end that just got put under Alternate Universe.

But there was a Severitus section.

 

Could have also been AzkabanForever. Blessings. Count them.

 

That should be this year's April Fools. Think of the possibilities.

 

Yeah, that one would have been awkward when everyone stopped liking Azkaban fics.

 

I joined in late 2005 under a username I don't even remember. And mostly lurked, rarely actually logging in. Then I re-joined in 2007, I think it was, because I wanted to post....somewhere. I forget.

I'm pretty sure my initial joining was via Lord Ravenclaw, but man it's been a while.

I vaguely remember finding the site via someone's author profile and lurking for several months before registering an account.

Might have been Nonjon or Shezza's stuff.

Found it through someone's fanfiction.net user profile in late 2005 when I was 13. I made an account and got sick of the name, so I made a new account a year later.

I... think I've spent nearly half my life here. It's weird to think about.

 

I can't remember exactly, but I stumbled upon fanfiction via Barb's Psychic Serpent. I'm guessing I was linked through an authors profile like about everyone else.

Eh, I wanted more Harry Potter in my life and after some Googling this was the most active forum.

Done and done.

 

I got into HP Fanfic via fanficauthors.net, through Jeconais and the like. Through there I found DLP, so it was probably via an angry authors note. 'Kinsfire' as a story rating was new at the time, I believe.

 

I saw it on a couple of author's profiles on ffn then heard about it a couple of times on reddit, mostly saying that DLP was full of smug elitists so naturally I made an account.

I then didn't use it because I'd never used a forum and it looked like a close knit group of people. Now here I am because I heard that a fic was complete in the wba here and thought I'd give this whole thing a try.

 

It's seriously been a while but if I remember, Xiph made mention of DLP and after answering a bit, linked me and here I am.

 

Along with many others, I joined after following a link on nonjon's profile. I was 13. This year I'll be 24.

I think I took a year or so off at one point, but it's surreal to think that soon I will have been on DLP for half my life. I don't post that often, but I've definitely had more positive experiences here than negative ones.

 

I remember reading a bunch of random HP fanfiction back sometime after OotP was published. But it was really around mid to late 2006 was when I started really diving into HP fanfiction. I was looking into a bunch of indy Harry and dark Harry fics and I came across DLP on google.

... I think I read Vash's Harry/Lily/OC sister story ("Oedipus Flower"), was somewhat traumatized, and didn't revisit for another few months.

Lurked on and off for a year and a half or so to check out reviews and then made an account because someone was wrong on the Politics forum.
