a plot bunny that just occured to me.maybe the true power of the dark arts, and the real reason they are shunned is because it has the ability to destroy matter. with such powers the whole part of the magic world that is even slightly immersed in the muggle discoveries is actively against them.

As far as we know, a vanishing spell can desolve matter or relocate matter.

 

EURICA!(sp) Vanish the Horcruxes! It's so crazy, it just might work.

 

The horcrux by my interpretation were vessals that anchored a part of the wizards soul to the mortal plane therefore if the object containing the soul fragment is destroyed then the soul loses its grasp on the mortal plane and boom there you go the wizards soul is lost to the abyss
