Pretty certain that's the next episode: "Legendaddy". John Lithgow I believe is cast as Barney's dad.

 

I'd like to say I'm surprised the Trinity Killer is Barney's dad, but...yeah.

 

So Barney meets his dad... who has another son, which we see, and a daughter in college, which we don't see. $5 says the Barney's half-sister ends up being Ted's wife.

 

$5 says Barney banged her.

What Barney didn't recognize her? Like Barney remembers everyone he has been with, and the sweater was covering her boobs.

 

No, she wasn't shown in the episode at all. My guess is they either havn't found an actress for the part yet or she won't appear at all.

 

Yes, but Barney was shown a picture of her. I'd assume she wasn't at the dinner because she is away in college.

Ok, after the praise this show has gotten, I might actually give it a go.

Having heard that its not good until such or such a point, something about Barney, I was wondering what season or episode would be best to start at.

 

Start from the pilot.
Barney is in the pilot.
Barney is awesome in the pilot (although this point is moot because he is awesome all the time).

 

Yeah, after seeing him in Dexter, I can't watch 3rd Rock, or anything he's been in and see him as anything other then Trinity.

Just watch from ep 1 and go forward, it's got it's dull moments, but there's usually enough laughs or snickers in each episode to make it worth watching.
