Generally I respect those who are intelligent enough to use proper English. Hell, I am German and look like Shakespeare in contrast to some 'native speakers' on the internet.

Although, even if you write your stupid shit gramatically correct, it will still be stupid shit.

Two things:

1. If you automatically respect those with a similar opinion to your own, does that mean you disrespect those whose opinions differ?

2. What I have wanted to say since I saw the thread:
Don't be a stupid asshat.

I generally like folks that come across as honest, without the sheer inflation of ego that's become so common here. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but it's only the folks that don't come across as a teenaged knowitall that get respect and posts read.

 

God yes. There are so many memembers here that are just bastards it's sickening. Anyone who doesn't agree with them or have the every little fact isn't worth listening to. They don't seem to understandthat not everyone can know everything about there choosen feild of study.

 

Contributions to the fandom are what get my respect more than anything else. By that I mean story quality and type (have to be in genres that I actually like) so no respect going to the H/G, H/Hr, and slash writers out there.

Beside that is wit/humor/charisma of the poster even though I don't often venture out of the Library or FF extras section where most posts are reviews, and those that aren't are about the fandom. I don't like people who can't give criticism in a way that does seem like they are justing flaming. That's probably my biggest peeve and I am not even a writer.

Besides if you are lacking in humor you can really only be one other thing, and that's an uptight jackass. And who really wants to have to communicate with some one like that.

The last thing I chose was Grammar, spelling and thoughtful conduct towards other (older) members of DLP. Though for me the older part of that choice doesn't matter to me, but the older members do tend to be authors so most get some respect automatically.

 

Contributions to the forum(ex. fics in the Library), meaningful posts and
thoughtful conversations. I also think that they would gain respect or at least tolerability by following EMPIRE.
But like World said if you post stupid shit correctly, its still stupid shit. Or as I like to call it, chicken shit.
