I've spent 20 mins writing up a post, on my phone to boot, and the forum just drops it.

This isn't the first time it's occurred to me either. Can posts be recovered, and if so, how?

 

I don't know of any way to help you now, but for the future you could use the Lazarus Form Recovery browser addon which saves posts as you're writing them and can be used to recover them.

Hey, sorry about the delay in replying.

I was writing up a post, stopped for a bit, finished it, then attempted to submit, then I received a [user has logged in since... Please try logging in again] message.

So I did. And wrote a giant post basically saying what I tried the first time.... And it happened again.

 

I remember that happening to me. The solution that worked for me was to log in with the "Remember Me" box checked.

 

If that happens (not specifically in here but on other boards as well) I use a new tab / window to log in, and in the 'lost-posting'-window I then hit the return button.

At least firefox restores the post.

But yeah, in here you won't time out if you mark the "Remember Me" checkbox.
