if transfiguring something into say a sheet of metal and throwing it in front of an AK wouldn't metal armor not have the same affect?

Yes it should, but apparently some authors are just stupid.

    New cliche:

Animagus. Forget the fact that people love to spell it wrong...animangus, animus, i am an animagi etc

I keep reading stories where ther animagus training starts with him having to change his physical features like lengthening nails, chainging hair color, blah blah...

why do they make it sound like he's a metamporphmagus? he shouldn't be able to change features in that way...lengthing fingernails and changing hair color doesn't have anything to do with turning into an animal if you're doing it in human form.

Another cliche that ties in with the current one, Harry's animagus being a phoenix (isn't that word spelt so weird?). I mean, while it was good at first, like all cliches, people tried to give it their own little flair, but failed, and others copied it, thus making the idea a cliche. Anyways, it really ticks me off when someone misspells animagus. And I personally think that while studying the animal inside and out is good, changing parts of you only would be a bit harder than the whole thing, wouldn't it be? Because you then have to keep it confined at one point instead of letting it go and do your whole body.

Yeah...what really gets me though is ow they don't write it as his fingernail turning into a claw. Instead, they write about it becoming longer, or his hair growing to the middle of his back.

And...what the fuck is up with people who write metamorph stories always making Harry morph into a woman? WTF? Then they write about how Tonks takes him shopping for female clothing so that he can feel comfortable.

Goddamn them. At least the ones who write mpreg keep him as a male...even thought the idea of shitting out a baby makes me sick.

Imagine that...*whoomp! splish-splash! WAAAAAAAAAAH! gurgle gurgle*

Imagine takinga a really big one and finding out that it's a kid. Yuck.

I sincerely apologize for the nasty image created.

I haven't been around that long. Also, the mpreg thing was already disscussed in a way in the Mature forum back when it was S&P.

House Elves.... Its seems to be the 'in thing' right now. More specifically Harry hiring house elves, but is a firm believer in House Elf freedom/SPEW ideas. That seems to be everywhere now.

Harry: Dobby I like you to be my House Elf but I will pay you and respect you and give you days off. Because you are my friend.

Dobby: Harry Potter is the greatest Wizard ever.

I think that to respect the house elves, you have to give them what they want. One fic, the name escapes, had Harry modify the bonding ritual so that the elf could chose whether or not it was free.

Why is there even a ritual? I mean Why not just point a wand at an elf and ask if they are will to work? That seem much simpler then going through a ritual...remember wizards don't think house elf are worth anything much less then energy wasted in a ritual...at least thats what I think.

MUAHAHAHAHA! Kill the little half-breeds! Filthy damned things!

But 'tis a good point...i don't get why he lets the mudblood dominate him so much. She says SPEW, he bows. WTF? If some little bastard with floppy ears had been stealing my letters for a month, enchanted a ball of iron to batter me and tried to stop me from going to school forcibly, i would ram a knife through his ear!

That pisses me off, the whole:

"Harry" said Hermione, massive buckteeth goucing scrapes in the pavement as they walked, "I'm going out with Ron."

"Hermy!" shouted Harry exuberantly, the noose around his neck as occasionally the redheaded whore behind him struck him with a whip, "I love you like a sister! If Ron thinks that he can tell me to be nice to his sister, then i'll have to threaten him too! It's only right! And fluffy! He had better not make my sister angry!"

"Oh!" shrieked Hermione, as she accidentaly bit down on a pebble lying on the path. "I'm sorry, Harry. What were you saying?"

    Yuck.

I know what you mean. I don't mind Hermione's character, but I just don't see why all these authors have Harry quaking in fear over her reaction to owning house-elves. I mean, I can see him dreading the noise she will make, but actually fear of her reaction? I don't see it.

It be more realistic to be like this:

"Harry! You enslaved some house-elves? How could you-" Hermione started but was interrupted by Harry's silencing charm.

"Yes, I have a few house-elves, but don't go start yelling at me for "enslaving" them. They want to work, I need time to do other things than clean and make food. It's a benificial agreement. If you are going to argue with me about it, take some consideration for how the house-elves feel when you are trying to take away the thing that gives them the most joy in life." He cast the counter charm, and cut the bushy haired girl off before she could open her mouth. "Besides, aren't I allowed to have a difference in opinion?"

    Apparently not.

I'd like to see one where he basically says, "Yeah, I own some House Elves. What are you going to do about it, bitch? Run to Dumbledore and complain?"

See thats what I would like to see. A different take on the House elf issue. I mean all the authors seem to forget that House elves DON'T WANT FREEDOM. They (the elves) consider it demeening and degrading. Its a shame on them to recieve cloths, and in a way far worse than death.

But everyone seem to fall behind Hermy saying "Its slavery and therefore bad". And what has she based her assumptions on? The actions of two families. Both of... questionable qualities. One thing that really erks me is did she do any research into House Elves? No, she just started SPEW expecting the Elves to applaud her as a hero and saviour. She never took the time to sit down and ask the elves how they feel, what they want etc. In a way she as bad as the other wizards, she just assumed she knew better and went from there.

    Its shear arrogence!!

Exactly! She was actually quite unlike herself in that way, wasn't she?

She didnt ask them because I think she thinks they are brainwashed, lol.

I've seen a few stories where its shown the other side of the whole house-elf thing. Harry was all for them being 'slaves' if they wanted to be. He just made sure they were clean, had somewhere warm to sleep, ect, ect. Ya know, treating them good.

Sure sure sure, but i'm afraid it all comes down to the fact that i sincerely cannot stand her character. She shrieks, and expects people to fold.

"Harry! You need to study! Honestly! Blah!" she screeched.

Harry winced as his eardrums burst. Blood leaked out of his ears and splattered on his shoulders. Timidly, he bowed and in a wierd voice that was unfortunately too loud, said "Queen Granger, i apologize. I shall he extra careful in licking your boots clean tonight."

"Damn straight," screeched Hermione, causing a window to shatter. She hiked up her skirt, trying to squat on the spine of a book and take it up her rear end. "I read in a book that this makes you smarter! And i have to be the most brilliant witch of my generation!"

One of the most painful cliches to read is when authors write Harry as tremendously respectful of Hermione. Why?

She's irritating, overbearing, bossy and assuming. They write independant Harry stories, but unless they drag up bad reasons to bash her, they make him her slave. He does literally anything she says, and it all magically works out in the end, thus cementing the fact that she is the 'smartest witch of her generation', a line that authors love to quote.

Yeah. They use that line way too much. That's the main reason why their Harry's listen to her. Because she is never wrong.

Well, in HBP she was wrong plenty of times. I dunno why she was all 'hate-4-HBP' and pretty much rubbed it in Harry's face that she was right... what was she right about anyway? It's not like the book did anything... it actually saved Ron's life. If he hadnt had the book, Ron might have died.
