I don't know why everyone makes Hermione out to be some sort of super genius-witch.

I mean yeah she reads a lot but theres no need to make her the Albert Einstein of the wizarding world.

She's book smart and has a little puzzle solving ability. That's about it really.

Mmm, I like Hermione as a character, I think she can work pretty well with Harry in a situation where they both respect each other and she isn't trying to be his mother. The problem is, JKR has *really* raped her character to point of hatred in HBP, and to a much smaller grade, in OotP.
I'd like to see her portrayed as intelligent and having a much diminished view of authority. I don't see her as a particular quick thinker in battle situations, relying on her large knowledge of spells rather than anything else. I think she is perceptive (but not too perceptive; I swear if I read "her knowing smirk" again I will hurt someone) and always trying to be the voice of reason. She isn't an all-knowing incredible encyclopedia of Harry. They aren't bonded incredibly like a brother and sister, and she can't guess what he is going to do next, who he will crush on next like I read in so many fics.

Anyhow, I think some will disagree, but I find quite hard to write Hermione just right.

I like Hermione as well - but only when she isn't dominating Harry. Well I did before OotP and her incessant nagging and screeching and SPEWing, and then HBP with her complete self-righteousness and dismissal or Harry not to mention obsession with Ron (who I absolutely hate) and that bollocks with McClaggen. Hmm, actually I don't like Hermione anymore, but I can tolerate her if she's written the way I like in a decent fanfic.

As far as being amazingly smart etc I have yet to see any actual evidence for this. She is very bossy and self-righteous and gets perfect grades but as far as canon goes she works absurdly hard - spends basically every free moment reading or doing homework. Now, I'm only a reasonable amount above average in intelligence and my grades are only ok, but I'm also extremely lazy. If I did half the amount of work she does, I could memorise text books and thus ace all my tests as well. The idea that her obsession with facts and learning makes her exceptional in any way is baseless.
'Smartest witch in her generation', well, she is possibly the smartest in her year at Hogwarts... of forty students - though personally I'm rooting for Daphne Greengrass :p.

The thing I find is that people after reading fanfiction see the extremes of certain characters. This as an example Hermione in canon IS intelligent but that doesn't mean she is wise or thoughtful. This is a perfect example of someone from one background and set of values judging someone else by their values because that is what they would want for themselves. I'd agree that I personally wouldn't want to be treated like a house elf but they do and she doesn't see that.
All of the characters in Canon have major flaws and drawbacks which people accentuate in fanon leading to the huge amount of character hate out there. Personally I don't really hate ANY of the characters from canon except the ones I am supposed to. Sure they get on my nerves and I wouldn't necessarily be friends with them but hey, my friends have plenty of flaws as people but when you know someone in person it is much easier to look past that and still remain friends than it is when you are reading about them.
This post s really rambling because I'm tired and stoned, sorry.

F&G&R&H: "HARRY JAMES POTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's your birthday."

    Harry: "Oh."

wait for it...wait for it...TADA!!! Cheesy line time!

Harry: "Wow guys, you really didn't have to do this! I've never had a birthday party before. I lived in a cupboard. Boo hoo. Pity me, please?"

Ginny: "Oh, Harry! I brought you a special present. It's called Amortentia. It...it...uh...lets you see your parents!!! Even if they're dead!"

Harry: *guzzles it down* "Oh Ginny, i never noticed what a vivacious and pretty girl you are. I've talked maybe ten sentences to you, but i feel like i know you on a whole different level! I love you Ginerva Molly Weasley! Let's get married!"

    Ginny: *looks triumphant*

Sorry for the double post, but I've got a new cliche: Harry in general being Hermione's whipping boy. In some stories, especially the ones where its H/Hr, it seems like all that Harry knows is that he has to follow Hermsy-wormsy. It annoys me to no end, especially when he is all powerful. It seems like that is those stories, if Hermione said to Harry, "Go fuck yourself." then he'd be all like, "YES MA'AM!!!"

    In H/G...

D'you guys remember how all authors inevitably put in apart about how Ginny stands firmly with her hands on her hips and scolds him?

"Harry James Potter! You had better not be thinking of doing what I think you're up to!"

Harry: *blushes embarassedly* "Okay Ginny. I won't shower this year. But I really want to! I know you like dirty sex, but i really think you've got the meaning wrong!"

Dear god...why do people love to make Harr a slave to the women he gets with? INDEPENDANT!Harry means that he does NOT take shit from people, not that he strikes out over the summer, and suddenly decides that he wants to be treated like a fucking farm animal!

because the majority of fanfiction authors are women and they make Harry into the man they want him to be. Subservient

LOL. True, but some people don't always read the good independant Harry fics. You have to remember that a majority of the people that read Harry Potter fanfics are female and might just believe in feminism.

    Fuck them.

If some whorish representation of my mother who wants to sleep with me tried that shit, i'd bitch slap her and castrate her.

You heard me...we all know that although Harry's the man, Ginny's the one who wears the pants in the relationship, and the boxers...and the athletic supporter.

We all know she's got a bigger dong than Harry.

    I'd rather not, thank you.

I think that you are thinking of Herman.

Nah, not Herman...although that truly is a travesty, and extremely unsettling.

No, i definitely mean Ginny...im most fics, she just strikes me as so damn manly. Not to sound sexist or anything, but she not only takes the role of the man in the relationship, always consoling the bloody sobbing Harry Potter, but she also overdoes it.

Harry is always turned into a sniveling little bastard by H/G shippers, and Ginny is the wo-man of the day, coming to his aid with the all powerful magical artifact known as a kleenex.

BTW...the "fuck them" wasn't me giving advice. It was a portrayal of my general scorn for Pussy!Harry

I know that it wasn't advice, I was just being an obnoxious person. Just like when people flick me off, I ask, "Where at?" or I say "Sorry, I don't swing for the other team."
