It means pull the other leg it has bells on it. It comes from (as far as I know) the expression "Your pulling my leg" which basicly means "Yeah right".

hm. Never heard that expression before, I've hear "You're pulling my leg", but never that. *shrugs* (I felt the need to speak the obvious)

The whole second wand thing is a cliche, but hey, I love it anyway. :D

I really hate this one...i can't understand why he buy an army worth of supplies for a bunch of kids who's piss in their pants the moment they saw a death eater...and for what reason does he buy them...they joined a club or believed in him...money is not to be thrown around so carelessly....especially when you have enemies..

Yeah you would think people would get wand holsters when they get a wand. I mean they carry their wand everywhere so it would be logical to think that they would need something to carry it. Unless everyone sticks it in thier back pocket or behind their ear.

Heck I would have thought Olivanders would have a "Buy a wand get a holster for half price" deal.

    New cliche:

INDEPENDANT!Harry walked into the meeting room of Grimmauld Place. He smiled coldly at the Order members sitting at the table, and sneered at Dumbledore. Of course, he was independant, so that was only expected of him.

He opened his mouth to speak, but couldn't really think of anything worthwhile to say; his argument seemed to have disappeared from his mind.

Speaking of his mind, he felt a light brush originating from the Headmaster.

Standing up, he snarled "I would appreciate it if you asked for permission before rummaging around in my head, Dumbledore!"

WTF? So it's okay if he asks permission and blows through his shields like a freight train?

Man, this is the most common thing to happen in stories where Harry actually learns Occlumency. He never says "keep the fuck out of my mind, you octagenarian bastard!", he always says "you should ask for permission before you do that, sweetheart."

Am i the only one that gets irritated by this?

I see both, I made sure in my story that he says "keep the fuck outta my mind", the wand holster thing is a little annoying too but not a major blow up for me.

I've seen both but I hate it when they use that line cause they are just trying to make him sound cool and it doesn't work. "keep the fuck outta my mind" is better and is what I would say.

The one's where Harry telling his life story to people he doesn't know well.
    It goes like this:
"It's always been like this Steven! Let me tell you the story of my life"
After 5 hours Harry ended telling his story.

If I were the listener I would kill myself. :rrou:

I just realised no one ranted on the fact, HARRY GETS O IN POTIONS IN EVERY SECOND STORY. Comeon, the guy can't brew a potion to save his soul, how come he can suddenly get into Newt class?

its becuase people want a way of getting harry into Auror training. Luckily, when I wrote me now abandoned Fic, I called Snape being the new DADA teacher... weee..

Another thing that annoys me Is the over emphasis on Harry's eyes and how they always glow or look like someone has started a large bonfire behind them.

I have read one, I think Reign of Power, where his eyes were actually described differently and it was one of the most refreshing things ever. they were showing the shadows, or an imprint of the AK curse he was struck with as a baby

Possibly because in OOTP he demonstrates that without several interested bystanders intent on seeing him fail (whether by intimidation - Snape or outright sabatoge - Draco) he can perform quite well....

While that may be true, Harry isn't that competent in studies... Heck he only does a little more than Ron. Now if he studied for those exams I can see it happening but not the way it was written in OoTP.

Another cliché, donno if this has been posted before but oh well.

Harry tossed in his sleep. In his dreams Sirius was calling him names while flouncing around in a yellow and purple tutu.

“Harry,” Sirius screamed as he bounced off the ceiling, “it’s your fault I died.”

“Sirius,” cried Harry as rivers of tears fell down his face. “Please forgive me.”

“Crying isn’t going to help,” shouted Cedric.

    “WAHHHHHHH,” cried Harry

I don’t mind Harry feeling guilty and/or moping, a little mind you. But not when it seems to be in every fic!!

I agree...i hate that whole dream scene. Every author seems to use it as a way to add length to the story.

They don't just mention it once in the first chapter, but hte whole story until Harry finds love is filled wth dreams like this, and he feels guilty and useless, and decides that he deserves to take it up the ass from Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Dumbledore.

It irritates me to no extent.

I agree, that has become far too prominent. Especially using the Cedric dead guy accusing him of his death, at least with Sirius it can be seen more as Harry's fault, to his mind at least.
