The idea of ancient forgoton spells being so powerfull is becaue to many writers have played thorugh final fantasy. Doesn't matter which one, they all have some elements of anceint uber power races and peoples. Alot of RPGs have this concept so its easily adapted to fanfiction. Rather than have him create so uber spell he just learns it in a frogoton book. Then agian the wizarding world, as Rowling creates it, is vanurable to this. She dilebratly made the world antiquated, and aparantly backwards.

Yeah, that is annoying. I mean, where are all the ancient cleaning spells and stuff?

    1-0 to Yarrrgh!!

I dont really mind the fact that there are old spells lying around in lost books, thats probably more than likely. Its the idea that so many authors have that Wizards from the past where natuarally stronger than they are in the present.

yes... i hate that idea too.
Another rant is how power is so much more superior power is than skills in fanfiction. honestly! voldemort was a bookworm! there is a "school" about magic, and the things they learn... it takes years to teach one to weav the magic in the right pattern. so when we have one character being so much better just because he is supposed to be more powerful...snort. harry is supposed to be powerful, then why does he struggles so? hermione is supposed to be exeptionaly weak (snort) then why is she the first to do the most complicated spell, everytime, even when compared to years older students? myself, i don't believe so much in "power" of wizards but in their skills...

How about we just say that while Harry and Tom are both equal in terms of raw magical power, maybe even stretching it to say that Harry has more power, Harry is a lazy idiot who doesn't embrace his "freakishness," while Tom realized his powers and their potential and tried to hone them as much as possible. Also, consider that Harry was "mistreated" (take this anyway you want to :) ) whenever he performed magic, while Tom's performance was mainly thought odd and dismissed...

I think in HBP, Tom was attacked/beaten for doing magic to. Unlike Harry, Tom used it to get revenge and defend himself.

Tom... was just a sadistic asshole. There was no abuse, at all. That's why people were a little... surprised that he was seemingly born evil, and not twisted that way.

I dont mind old spells, I just dont like it when all of them are the strongest, most powerfulest, most beautifulest spellz evah!!!

It's annoying. It's like all the books/scrolls with weak, everyday magic were thrown on a fire.

Heh, but one thing thats more annoying than that is when the EVERDAY charms are even BETTER because they were made by some ancient race of peoples.

"Damn, this cleaning charm does EVERYTHING, including pick my nose!"

What ticks me off is the way every Honks starts and ends. They'r all like,

"OMG Tonks I want to see you in yur natural form."

"Alright Harry, never mind that it is something very personal to me and i hardly know you"

"You are just beautiful. i love you"

"OMG Harry, nobody has ever said that to me. i luv you too"

    ~END~

It really ticks me off. Find something original to start up a Harry!Tonks pairing or don't write it at all.

    Snort. So true.

Is anyone but me bothered by super!neville in fic? just because he could have been the recipient of a prophecy, he is supposed to be extra powerful. Even some good fics and author coughfinbarcough have that...

I don't like Neville as a powerhouse either. He's just a kid with some issues, period. He is not powerful, he is barely above squib level. I also hate fics where Nevill gets paired with someone...he is FAR too shy to associate with girls. Sure, he took Ginny to the Yule ball...but EVEN he peoplably knows how desperate she is. So, i don't see him as powerful, and i don't see him as strong personality-wise.

Hum.. i don't like either fics where people are "squib level". I don't think there is that much difference in power level in people. It's like muscle i think. the more we train them, the better they are. Sure, some people have a birth advantage, but there is no superhuman, i think. Skill counts for a lot. Sadly, as you said, neville doesn't have skill though, so...

    In Slytherin!Harry fics.

Dumbledore is always worrired and concerned that Harry will follow the path of Tom Riddle. If he, as Headmaster, believes the prejudices and reasons for House segregation to be true, how can he let Slytherin exist as a House, or not intervene to ensure it offeres a different environment?

^The above is always stated, but Dumbledore never really follows up on that, so its not really cliche.

Dumbledore just steeples his hands in his office and thinks about Harry and Tom and the chance of Harry becoming evil.

    and thats it.

Nothing else is mentioned of this plot idea ever again.

What I'd like to see is more Grindlewald. Did he go to Hogwarts? Did Dumbledore know him before he turned 'dark'? There are quite a few stories that show what fans think Tom Riddle's early life was like, heck, even I'm writing one, but what about Grindle?

Something i have been getting really annoyed at recently is 'Mione. Can anyone tell me where in the books anyone refers to Hermione as Mione? IMO she to prissy to let anyone shorten her name.

I also have to ask, where in the books is Harry ever refered to as Har. Its pathetic. To me it just says that the author is dissatisfied with their own name, and thinks everyname needs to be shortened or changed.

I always thought Har was a misspelling... Is it pronounced "Hare" or like when a pirate says "Har"?

This as well is starting to piss me off....

ah.. "i won't forgive you", right?
Yes, the whole burining the album, destroying the broomstick, and killing hedwig is far too used.

You mean...when a Pirate says "YARRGH!" :D That's where me name came from, lad, from Davy Jones' Locker!

    YARRGH!!!

But yes...i don't go for shortened names. 'Mione' sounds stupid, almost as bad as 'Ginerva'. Why the hell did she have to make Wizarding names so stupid-soounding? And who the fuck names their child 'Hermione' anyways?
