Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent fanfiction where Harry Potter founds his own magical community, creates a successful business, or becomes an inventor? I've been searching everywhere with no luck. I'd really appreciate it if you had any suggestions! :awesome

You mean like inventing spells and organizations, or perfecting things like potions or rituals?

Yeah, no, those are left to Dumbledore, Voldemort, and Snape, all of whom are an order of magnitude more badass than Harry.

Well, there's also Fred and George, but again, far more badass than Harry ever got to be.

That there was your second mistake. The first one was asking about something so easy to stumble over, it seems like you're just not putting in the effort.

As I am idle for the moment, I'll answer your question but ignoring the red word. Follow these links at your leisure/peril.

Harry Potter and the Midnight Sun

Make a Wish (more for the sequel, but read this first)

    Lord of Caer Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Invincible Technomage

Harry Potter and the Quantum Leap

    Cant Have It Both Ways

Each of these is long, involved, exceedingly self-satisfied in their cleverness and likely to send folks here into convulsions for one reason or another. You'll also find them on the Favorite's list of the other works' Authors.

Oh hey, might as well include my egregious monster as well; Holly is nothing if not inventive.
Holly Evans and the Spiral Path.

Your interest in these stories has marked you as chum to the very literate sharks that reside here. Flee while you can, but don't say we never did anything for you.

The reason I put the word decent in that particular sentence is because I have looked at your suggested fanfictions. They are complete and utter unrealistic crap! Hence the word decent. I'm not looking for a super!Harry, rich!Harry, not even a shooting rainbows out of my ass!Harry.

There have been people who have created successful business that have not been rich. There have been people who have invented objects purely by accident. There have been people who have bound together to achieve a goal. I was asking for a decent fanfic. If there aren't any just say so.

However, I'll take your advice and leave. After all, I wouldn't want to offend your majesty with my poor taste.

When I see Harry Potter and the Quantum Leap, I immediately pictured the 80s T.V show....

It's not the best thing, but nostalgia dictated I at least start it, and it's a good guilty pleasure read.

If you can write a realistic, decent, interesting story about a protagonist who isn't canon!harry and the plot is not how to lose a war to Voldemort and then win by authorial fiat, why would you write fanfic? You'd just write an original story. I might even read it.

I was thinking more along the lines of after Harry defeated Voldemort. Who in their right mind would try to do any of those things if you have someone trying to kill you.

It might be conceivable to invent something that might help in the war effort, but then you start going into the whole unrealistic, craptastic genre.

I would write an fanfiction or original fiction on the subject, but I'm already writing three other novel length stories. Between that, college classes, and work, I'm booked.

---------- Post automerged at 06:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:44 PM ----------

I would not come off as such a snotty bitch had I not been answered in an insulting manner. Like I said before if there is no such story then just say so.

I am a nice person, but I have learned a long time ago not to let people walk all over me. I am respectful to those who show respect.

In case you haven't noticed I did not reply until someone started acting snotty to me. I'm sorry if I seem like a snotty bitch to you, but that's your opinion.

Did you know that the option to put that smiley next to a thread is only there to see who uses it? We keep a list.

Anyway, you got the correct answer in the third post. Although "creates a successful business" is impossibly vague -- you could argue that this is Canon, if you assume that Harry part-owns WWW, since he funded it. Maybe you could also mean Jeco's 'This Means War', since Harry opens a Butterbeer factory there. Or 'Modest, Too' by Luan Mao, where Harry shuts down the economy altogether by bombing Gringotts (incidentally a Jeconais rewrite as well). Killing all other business qualifies as being successful too, I think.

So is that what you're after?

You know, attitudes that a few of you are portraying is what prevents the new members to stay in this comunity. It is understandable that you guys want to show off how badass members of this community are, but it would probably be better off to reserve the attitude for veteran members.

There is no 'new' and 'old', there is only power, and those too weak to seek it.

I didn't find it particularly off-putting as a new member when I joined. Lurk for a few days then don't make an ass of yourself. If you end up making an ass of yourself anyway just let it go and move on.

Most of the members who posted here have been as helpful as one could hope for. They provided related story suggestions while pointing out that exactly what the OP wanted probably doesn't exist. Just because they're blunt about their thoughts doesn't mean they are trying to be badass -- I'm guessing they just don't give enough of a damn about what you think to pussyfoot around with how they word things.

OP -- the only stories that came to my mind have been mentioned already. Unfortunately there are some categories like this that no one has really tried their hand in properly. I've run into the same problem with some of the kinds of fics I've wanted to read.

Let us know if you find something worthy.

I got the point around the second post that I wasn't going to find what I'm looking for. Despite, what anyone may think I don't have any issues with my comprehension.

I don't mind being blunt. At times I am blunt myself. However, there is a difference between being blunt and being rude. When you start substituting my name with 'chum' or 'snotty bitch' you have crossed that line.

Other that that I totally agree with you. Despite, a few people most have been helpful and I do appreciate that fact.

    This thread made me laugh.

On topic, wasn't there a fic a while back where Harry travelled back in time and became a spectacularly successful investor, because of some twist of fate involving a diary Ron wrote in. Can't think what the name was, but that might fit your criteria. Though I don't recall if it was decent or not.

Except from when you did act like a snotty bitch.

The posts before mine were blunt and honest, if not a little satrical in Jeram's case, and especially helpful in Wordhammer's.

    But then you had to say this in particular;

To me, the subtext of this (and your other posts here) just reek of snideness/superiority.

I've also seen the 'respectz!' line so many times, from so many other people, when they've stumbled into a situation like this.

In most cases, it doesn't end well.

Sorry, luv, but this is the internet; thick skin is a requirement, and if you get your heckles up over bluntness and harsh honesty in forum posts...well. :facepalm
