Is there anything said about what happens to muggleborns who refuse to go to Hogwarts?

No. Nothing is said anywhere I can find. I'm not sure JKR even considered the possibility that anyone wouldn't want to learn magic.

Super-religious parents that don't want their kids learning witchcraft?

Maybe so, but we still don't have any info on what happens in that case.

We don't know if the parents' wishes are respected or if they are forced to allow the kid to go.

I imagin they would live normal lives with the odd weird thing happening around them.

Exceptionally lucky people, or unlucky, people who claim to see ghosts who truely do.

Plot bunny:- Hogwarts Nights: Night School for older muggle born students whos parents either didnt want them to go or they couldnt go. Now older and able to make their own choices they are signing up for magical education.

Could even follow the trio: Harry going as an adult as the Dursleys wouldn't let him, Hermione parents wanted her to have a normal education and Rons parents could afford Hogwarts after 4 older siblings. Now 21 years old, they are entering their first year.

    Lends itself to smut.

Is there any further requirement to hatching a basilisk than "a chicken egg hatched under a toad"?

Because I just don't believe that. Every Dark Wizard in history would have had an army of basilisks. Small children who play with dolls and eat mud pies would make basilisks by accident, just by the law of large numbers.

I always liked to think of that as disinformation spread around by the people who made Basilisks in the first place. I mean, just putting it in a book where it's freely available to anyone would be completely preposterous.

I suspect that controlling that army might be an issue.

Ok, here's a question of my own: Can the imperius curse be used on animals?
If i remember canon correctly we only see it used on humans and a goblin, correct?

This was partly caused by the basilisk army in the posts above.

I also remember reading a fic where Snape, Dumbledore and Harry go to the cave, Dumbledore is all 'let the oldest man sacrifice himself' and makes to drink the Potion from the bowl, when Harry interrupts him 'don't be daft' and conjures a dog, tries to imperious it, whereupon Snape goes 'Dont be daft' imperiuses the dog and then sais 'I have a lot more experience with this curse'
Just one of these scenes that really stuck in my head, even if i can't remember the fic it was in.#

Edit: What about other forms of mind magic, do you think Confundus, obliviation, Cheering Charm would work on animals? I feel like a am forgetting some form of mind magic. It's early in the morning.

Nothing exact is said, just that she's older. Probably by two years, I'd guess.

The Hogwarts Basilisk was also rather old, so it's likely that any basilisk under a century would be unsuitable for an 'army'. There's also the issue of controlling them if you're not a Parseltongue.

Is there a rough date for when Sirius ran away? Specifically, was it before or after the werewolf incident?

Edit: Quick googling brings me to Sirius's HPwiki page, so take this all with a pinch of salt. Left home at age 16. Birthday in the Autumn, so he left most likely between 6th and 7th year.

Werewolf incident happened between end of OWL's and start of 7th year.

I like to use HP Lexicon's timeline. They're pretty self-aware of inconsistencies. Here's all the timelines. Here's third year and the day to day calendar. The calendar doesn't include Sirius' escape, probably because it's uncertain. This is what it says about Sirius' escape:

Edit: Oh, whoops. You meant when he ran from home, didn't you? Says in the Lexicon that Sirius ran from home in his fifth year and that he played the prank on Snape in his sixth (I assume that's what you mean by werewolf incident). Here's the Maurarders and First Rise of the Dark Lord timeline.

Thanks Hallowed. For a second I wondered if he'd been more or less kicked out for nearly murdering another student. This clears that up.

Are there any fics about the goblin wars? Fanon always points this out as the failing of the history class, but hell if we really know what they're really about besides a few details.
