It's a point of contention, for sure. I've heard it chalked up to two things:

    1) implanting false memories is a separate and likely easier piece of magic

    2) JKR was trippin'.

I dont think she memory charmed her parents, you cant just remove the memories of a daughter while leaving the rest in place.

She confounded or something similar them. Made them think they were someone else. Very different.

Yes, these are two different charms. One erases memories, the other one adds them.

Also guys, does anyone have a list of people that Dumbledore could have possibly gone to school with?

It doesn't have to be canon (Though that would be helpful), just anyone that seems around Dumbledore's age. For example, I feel either Charlus (Who's DOB is unknown) or Fleamont (Who was said to have James at a late stage in his life) could maybe go to Hogwartswith Dumbledore.

I would tentatively include others such as Ollivander.

We know Doge and Aberforth went to school with Dumbledore. According to HPwiki they don't mention anyone else.

Who isn't out of the realm of possibility to have attended Hogwarts with Dumbledore? SLughorn perhaps? Maybe Ollivander?

My headcanon is that Phineas Black was headmaster when Dumbledore was studying. Also, 4 of his children have been at school at the same time as Dumbledore (none in his year).

Why not for Fleamont, but Charlus did marry a woman 40 years younger than Dumbledore. Even for wizards, it's a bit much.

Given her comment about Harry being 'yet another Weasley', I'd say Aunt Muriel comes from the Prewett side of the family.

Confirmed- first reference to her in book 7 was as 'Molly's Aunt Muriel'.

Oh, and as of Bill and Fleur's wedding, Muriel was 107, which means she started at Hogwarts around 1902.

Do all muggle countries have magical counterparts and the other way around. I remember Transylvania being mentioned but is it ever said if they are part of Romania or their own magical country? I doubt a canon source ever said if magical and muggle borders match or not but maybe I haven't looked hard enough.

Well the Quidditch game for PS2 had a lot of different countries but that's hardly Canon.

I assume there are wizards everywhere but they don't necessarily follow modern day national borders.

Like, I imagine the breakup of Yugoslavia was he'll for the country's magical government. Did they split into separate entities or remain because they were removed from muggle society?

Shit, there's a Quidditch game on PS2? Damn, where the hell have I been for the last decade?

Anyway, I would assumethat as long as nothing contradicts the books (Or even movies) that the game wouldbe canon.

I'm not sure whether I'm mistaking it for speculation but I remember reading somewhere that borders don't match.

Supporting this is that magical Luxemberg is mentioned as having a Quidditch team. Unless Luxembourg had a far, far higher ratio of magicals to muggles than Britain that would not be plausible.

My recollection is in the books, he dodges, and then uses a broom to get away.

    Wait, what?

You only need 7 people for a quidditch team. You're telling me it's impossible for Luzemberg to have at least 7 magical people?

    Ogggg has it right.

Also, the video games aren't canon. They were put out by the distributor of the HP brand, but JK had no direct input into them.

Something that is a part of a lot of fics, is the fact that Dumbledore always seem to know when someone is outside his office and who it is. Is this canon?

As far as I recall, the only time someone knows who's outside the door is in Goblet of Fire when Harry goes to Dumbledore's office, overhears some stuff, and then Moody is the one to announce Harry's right outside.
