Some of guys might know this already, but a group of Redditors got together over the summer and ranked the 500+ Survivor players. Twice. And a subsection of that group went off into the HP Reddit and created the HP Rankdown, where they began ranking the 200~ characters of the HP series. A link explaining what is the HP Rankdown on Reddit.

Basically, what happens is a group of people, called the rankers, have the task of ranking all of the HP characters. Each ranker will take a turn to cut a HP character and give the character that they cut a short write-up. After the post the write-up, they then nominate another character to replenish the pool. Rankers can only cut characters who are nominated in the pool, and they cannot cut the same person that they nominated. For example, Taure can't nominate Neville Longbottom on Round 4 and then cut him at Round 6: even if he loathes Neville, he will need to persuade another ranker to cut Neville for him.

Because you can't cut your own nominee, negotiation is required, and frequent debate rages when people dissent. More details on ranking can be found here.

    For example:

Current Nomination Pool: Ginny Weasley, Harry Potter, Luna Lovegood, Ron Weasley, Neville Longbottom, Hermione Granger.

+ Taure cuts Ginny Weasley, giving her a reasonable write-up explaining the pros and cons. He then nominates Minerva McGonagall.

Current Nomination Pool: Minerva McGonagall, Harry Potter, Luna Lovegood, Ron Weasley, Neville Longbottom, Hermione Granger.

+ Lungs cuts Ron Weasley, giving him a write-up with reasons for why he's a decent literary figure and why he might not be. He then nominates Narcissa Malfoy.

Current Nomination Pool: Minerva McGonagall, Harry Potter, Luna Lovegood, Narcissa Malfoy, Neville Longbottom, Hermione Granger.

+ Irene REALLY wants to get Hermione out, but lo and behold -- Irene had nominated Hermione before, and hence, she isn't allowed to cut her. Instead, Irene cuts Narcissa Malfoy, giving her a write-up, before she nominates Severus Snape.

Current Nomination Pool: Minerva McGonagall, Harry Potter, Luna Lovegood, Severus Snape, Neville Longbottom, Hermione Granger.

The Redditors chose to embellish this process by adding Hallows, which are described here:

Personally, I find their Hallow system needlessly complicated, so I'd personally simplify it by saying that each ranker has the 3 Hallows, which they can only use once: the Elder Wand allows for two cuts instead of just one (you must renominate two people), the Resurrection Stone can resurrect a character (provided that you use the Stone within 24 hours of the character's write-up post), and the Invisibility Cloak will remove a character from the pool and/or make them immune to nominations/cuts for the next month.

You guys can decide how many rankers you want, but the HP Rankdown used 8.

    ---

Past rankdowns have led to some great posts, a WTF ranking order, and a lot of duplicity and fun deals. Spectating can be a hoot, and obviously, Taure needs to be a ranker so he can write his tl;dr and somehow shepherd Albus Dumbledore into #1.

This will be a long-ish project, but it was a tonne of fun on Reddit, both the Survivor iterations and the HP ones. Is anybody interested in being a Ranker?
