Yeah, we've all heard of the Ancient!Harry Cliche that's popped up quite often, but here's something I just thought of:

An ascended being, annoyed with The Others' view on interference, decides to take human form again. He stores his ascended knowledge in a database and leaves a memory of where to find it and how to adapt a normal human to be able to hold the vast amount of ancient knowledge.

One problem: his new body seems to be the target of a prophecy including a rather annoying dark lord. The failed AK causes the memory to become blocked and he goes on living his natural life until Occlumency lessons with his Potions teacher cause Harry to discover who he truly is...

So what do you guys think? I might end up writing it just to get the damned bunnies to go away. Bloody things.

    Very interesting...

Now all we need is someone to write it.

Ok, I'm actually going to write this :). But I'm going to need some help from some seasoned authors. E.G. how do you plan? What do you do to actually motivate you to write?

Edit: Could someone give me a name for an ancient, please? I'm really bad with names.

Edit 2.0: Thank you to Shezza for writing the fantastic HPatS. Re-reading it today reminded me exactly why I love the genre.

Harry's Ascended name is Co'ock. >_> Joking. He'd have probably tried to keep a similar name to his Ascended form, so you have that to work with. Most of the name's i'd come up with would probably be more Goa'uld then Alterean though, LoL.

    Edit; One Thousandth Post, w00t.

Many ancients are figures from Earth mythology e.g. Merlin, Morgan Le Fey.

You could give it a twist and think something up along these lines. Perhaps the name of a famous or legendary figure. Since Egyptian and Norse mythology is taken, perhaps try something Roman, or Greek. Like Hercules, or Odysseus, or Julius Caesar, or something religious, like Jesus or Moses....

As for how I plan, I generally have my idea for the story, then take that idea and split it up into chapters. I leave the detailed planning for each chapter until I'm about to write that chapter, otherwise if you plan it too early then you never get round to writing it 'cos it feels like old hat.

But then I can't really talk, never having finished a chaptered story as I always lose my motivation...

    Z0mg.

I dare you to make Harry's name Sigurd. >_> it ties him in with The Asgard.

Thanks guys, but keep 'em coming.

I just had a thought (yes, it was quite painful). Maybe instead of descending Daniel, they sent him into the body of a child. Enter Harry Potter. Same method of unlocking memories but this bits up for grabs. I have my idea and I'm going to stick to it.

PS, Surarrin, where did Sigurd come from? I don't know much Norse mythology.

I think Sigurd has something to do with Thor, the thunder god. I only think though. Or Sigurd could just be a name of an Asgard. Cue Surrain, who will prove me wrong. :)

Anyway, interesting idea. A nice twist on some of the Ascended!Harry you see.

Here's what I've got so far.

Ascension was a very strange concept. Being able to see everything, yet being blind. Knowing everything, yet being ignorant. For some it was just simply unbearable. For others, it was the rules. Yes, even those on higher planes have rules that seem overly controlling, and for a recently ascended being (a young man) this was definitely the case. His home was destroyed by parasitic beings known as the Goa’uld. He tried to interfere, and strike down this menace, but the all-seeing ‘Others’ held him back.

Over the centuries, the being grew jaded to his fellows, and planned in secret to once again take human form, keeping all of his ascended knowledge. He stored all of his knowledge in a computer system on a planet outside of the Stargate network (built by his peers before their ascension). There was a problem to this, however: How to reach the planet without a wormhole? His answer: a small scout ship, equipped with hyperdrive and large amounts of food and drink for the trip.

There was another problem also. The immense knowledge of the Alterrans (the name of the other ascended before their ascension) was too massive for any human brain. He would have to adapt his new body, but how?

The idea struck him whilst watching the humans of Earth. The were able to use what they called magic to better themselves and make their lives easier just by waving a stick of wood. Therefore, why couldn’t he use this magic to enlarge his brain? Simple sounding, but it took him an entire century to discover how to safely enlarge the brain.

The time had come. He’d planted the ship in a place abandoned for centuries: The Chamber of Secrets. He also made sure to leave a memory in his new body to be able to find the ship and have the knowledge needed for the enlargement of his new brain.

He saw a young couple fresh out of school. Their names were Lily and James Potter. More importantly, they had the recessive gene required for the operation of Ancient (Alterran) technology. This meant that, with a slight interference, he would have everything he needed.

It was time. He drew his power for one last time in the higher realm, said a silent goodbye to those likeminded, and then he was no more.

At that exact moment, Harry James Potter was born. “Lily!” The new father cried. “It’s a boy! Sirius! Remus! Peter! Come in! I’m a Dad!”

“You know, Prongs, we’d never have guessed” Teased Sirius.

“Yeah” agreed Remus “I think they heard you over in the Dai Llewellyn ward.”

“Yeah” Peter reiterated, trying to insert himself “’cause the Dai Llewellyn ward’s all the way over there.” Here he pointed towards the back of the room.

“I think you’ll find, Pete, that the Dangerous Dai ward’s actually over there.” Lily interjected, pointing in the opposite direction. And looking to the others, “Besides, don’t you want to see your Godson?”

“Why didn’t you say so sooner, Lils?” Sirius remarked, grinning from ear to ear. “Well, pass him here then.”

Lily handed the small child over carefully to the man, as if afraid to let him go. “Don’t drop him, Sirius.” She warned.

“As if I would.” And it was true. Sirius was enraptured by his Godson. “We’re going to look after you, Little Harry.” He whispered to the bundle in his arms. “And we’ll always be there.”

I'm not too happy with the end, but please, I'd love some comments.

Edit: I'm going to do the AK scene next, so if someone could post what happens when Voldemort attacks the Potters I'd be very grateful. (I'm too lazy to dig out the books :D.)

Now I see why some people love to write so much. It's almost addictive. Plus the fact that I really need to hear what you guys think...

I like it but it will be more interesting once Harry regains his memories... Also I think that you should not give Harry all knowledge of the Ascended. It will make him to powerful, you can give him as much knowledge as the human brain can handle, like Adria in Season 10 of SG-1...

Sigurd is a pretty cool Hero of a tragedy.

Gets a Big Honkin' Sword which makes him Invincible.

Kills a Dragon, and his traitorous mentor, gets a cool ring and Eats a Dragons heart.

Saves The Sex'ah Bryn from the evil circle of fire.

Ton's of stuff, including, but not limited to

making a Princess fall in love with him who pretty much drugs him with a love potion, and ruins his life. (gets him and Bryn killed.)

    it goes on. >_>

Wasn't there another SG-1/HP plot similar to this thrown on this board recently? Hmm...

I don't remember there being an idea like this, and I keep track of most of them...

Anyway, it's a good start: could do with a bit more description of the settings etc, but other than that a good start.

I remember that one. Mine's a mostly different premise though. And Zev, you never know. maybe Harry will hear about the revival of the wraith :D

But I have an essay to do now, I'll post the full prologue tomorrow (maybe chapter 1 if i get the chance to write it -grin-)

Again I feel the need for advice. How can I fatten up my chapters? At the moment I have about 1-1.5k per chapter and I feel inadequate compared to certain authors -glares around at teh awesomeness-

    Describe EVERYTHING!

    In great detail.

Seriously, the words just add up after that, and it really does increase the quality of the story.

The shape of the room (or the landscape if its outside), where people are in it in comparison to others, objects within the room, colours, movements. All these things are needed for the reader to build up a vivid image of whats going on.

As well as this, a bit of introspection doesn't hurt from time to time: just don't make it too angsty!
