The best H/Hr I've read features Hermione in a supporting role, and she shines there. I'm biased because I want to read HP, not HG and the BWL. She only becomes a love interest much later in the story; Harry's first girlfriend is Tracey.

Sounds like a CW-esque teenage romance fic, yeah? Hell no, it's one of the darker stories I've read, and I guess it's now a forgotten gem.

It's What Lies Beneath by Master Slytherin. It's primarily a believable Dark!Harry story and both romance subplots are there to serve the story, rather than detract from it.

As for year six AUs with Harry/Fleur - A Beautiful Lie by @MaybeMayba is great and still updating.

It had a rough, rough start but I just jumped back into this story after maybe two years, and it's a far cry from what it was. MM ruthless threw out a whopping 100k words, and it was well worth it.

Also features great mentors in Dumbledore...and Grindelwald. It's in the library, but reckon it deserves a little more attention, at least.

I remember being a bit annoyed by some aspects of the Harry/Fleur romance the first time around, but maybe things have been altered some since.

Ron/Fleur sounds great. I'd read that.

She is the prettiest girl in their year(according to Dean) and the only girl Harry referred to as very pretty other than Ginny, Cho and Fleur.

She also seems to be the one person in his year he seems to get along best other than Hermione and Ron.

I think it would be easy to write some light hearted not overly serious relationship between them. An easy point would be Harry just choosing to have fun on their date in canon, instead of ignoring her because he is upset ahout Cho.

Like, she may not be Harry's one true love, but she doesn't have to be. You can easily see her as the kind of girl Harry could Date for a year or two.

In my opinion the. fandom in general lacks these kind of relationships that you could easily see a teen having.

Writers certainly seem to idealise teenaged relationships. Shit like date one person in high-school and then marry them. In Harry Potter, how many actually did the realistic thing where you date a variety of different people before marriage?

We've got Ron who dated just two people, Harry who sort of dated two people (not sure Cho counts given the lack of actual dating), Hermione who might have dated Krum. The closest to realistic dating is Ginny who dated a few different people, broke up with them, moved on etc.

There is an objectively correct answer to this question. That answer is:

    Airships.

Everyone should read the reviews on How To Avoid Huge Ships if we are truly going down this route.

I don't know. I've read so much idiotic and terrible shit featuring the pairing, that Harry x Hermione has been soured for me. Not that I wouldn't read a fic with it, but hitting 'close tab' is never far from my mind.

    Works for me. :wizard: :D

...just to be clear, so you think Susan is described as well-endowed in canon, or just in fanfic? Because if it's the former, I'm going to need a source on that.

    OK, fair enough, just checking.

Out of curiosity though, is there anything other than her having huge tits that makes her a suitable partner for Harry?

Not really, but it does seem a bit at odds with your thread complaining about Jim Butcher's pervy writing.

I'd be down for more stories of Harry with a Hufflepuff girl, whether that be Susan, Hannah, or whoever else. It always seemed like a supportive, loyal Hufflepuff girl would be just what a stressed out guy like Harry needed.

How about Harry/Padma? Basically all that, and a super duper smart Ravenclaw to power up Harry to your heart's content.

Hell, you could have this take place sometime after Padma's disastrous dance at the Yule Ball with Ron. Padma starts dating Harry out of sheer spite. Seems like the sort of thing teenagers would do.
