The only ranks that matter are User, Moderator and Admin. The titles are mostly just for show based on post count. You do need a few posts to access WBA though.

 

If you're talking about post-count titles, look here.

Basically, once you hit a certain post count, your title changes to a new one. But do note that receiving a new title doesn't mean you get additional privileges (except for WBA access). All users, regardless of post count, have more or less the same stuff available to them.

 

Thumbs-ups are also restricted based on post count, but again that's just a "make a few posts and it unlocks" situation.

Basically, once you post enough to prove you're not a spambot and can actually contribute something to the forum, postcount titles are only good for bragging rights.

Everyone does it, the trick of the art lies in not being too shitty and being able to wrap your shitposts in glittery circumstances (like newb threads that deserve ridicule) and/or getting thumbs.

Oh thank god its only 5 posts i dont want to log in with a friends acc to read wba all the time. Does anyone know why there are measuers against spam bots reading wba since that seems kind off harmless?

 

If I remember correctly some cock was going around uploading fics from the WbA to fanfiction.net claiming them as his own.

 

...lol. No one writes bots to 'read' fanfiction.

We've had instances of mass-plagiarism, where a bot has ripped many stories off of WbA and has uploaded them elsewhere. The five post requirement is an effort to prevent this.

 

well thanks for answering so promptly it's just hard for me to believe someone would be that stupid, since stories are intellectual property and you can get sued over something like this even if it is only fanfiction.

 

It wouldn't move to lawsuits (c'mon, it's fanfic) but it was a massively dickish thing to do.

I still don't understand why some people think 5 posts is an impregnable barrier. You could always just wait for FFN postage.

 

Pretty sure legal action with it comes to fanfiction is impossible. It is a massive dick move, however, that gets punished by the mods of pretty much every fanfic site there is if it gets proven.

'Proven' being the key word. Plenty of assholes still take their chances.
