Does anyone recognize this because I have no recollection of writing it but if I did then holy shit. I have no intentions of taking it further but I wanted to be sure it wasn't someone else's work.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to put it.

    Chapter 1: The Beginning

Harry looked up from the pieces of parchment he was studying over. The scribbles were just barely within his understanding, but it was stretching his new language skills to the limit. Whoever had written it had clearly meant for no one to read it and understand without first knowing just who it was that was writing the letter. He blinked a few times and caressed his temple as he struggled with the parchment. As he continued to read a house elf popped in, it was wearing nothing more than a wash cloth and it merely held up a hand with a cup of strong American coffee.

“That will be all Dobby, you can go.” Harry replied as he snatched the coffee from Dobby’s hands in a vicious sweeping of his arm. He hadn’t meant to take his anger out on the house elf but the letters were pissing him off. He stood and moved to the small window that gazed over the grounds of Hogwarts. The Forbidden Forest was foreboding and dark as usual and the pale sickle moon hung low in the sky. He sipped the drink and contemplated.

Dumbledore’s death had hit the wizarding community hard, leaving a deep scar on the psyche of the people. Harry could feel the pressure building on his shoulder as more people were writing to him about their problems and asking for his help or aid. Even foreign ministries were starting to ask for his assistance and he had no idea what exactly he was even supposed to do right now.

Dumbledore had urged him to go to his relative’s house for at least one day if only to try and extend the protection for a few extra months but he couldn’t find the urge to care for them any longer. That urge had “gone out the window” as American’s would say, along with the desire to continue his schooling. What use were a few silly tricks he could learn here when Voldemort was out in the world, ready to wreak havoc now. What Harry needed was a way to become better at magic and as fast as possible.
Harry was angry at the moment, angry at the injustice of the world. Furious at the fact that fate had decided to give his opponent the power he could not obtain. Enraged at the idea that his only link to getting the power he needed to defeat Voldemort. However, he was also in deep sorrow over the death of the man who had been his mentor. He couldn’t feel anything but anger that his mentor had not let him strike Malfoy down. But, he had seen the memory and he knew that it had to have happened else his only reliable connection to Voldemort would have been lost forever, and no matter how much he detested Snape, he needed the man to deliver his news else he would be woefully behind. Harry was an emotional tornado on the inside, but the face to the world had been nothing but a blank mask as he took stock and tried to gain control over himself.

For now though, he needed sleep and that is what he would do. He placed the empty cup down, the caffeine not even affecting him for odd reasons as he became drowsy with the thought of sleep. Hopefully the gale force winds that were roaring through his mind would quiet while he slept.

    _-_-_-_-_

    Power.
Pure, unadulterated Power, as in Power with a capital P.
That’s what he needed, and a quick way to get it. The rituals had failed because he did not have enough power. In order to achieve the first step to immortality he needed the one thing which he could not at this moment find. The Hallows would be the key to his problem of the moment. After he had attained that he could set about destroying the Potter brat. The end was just beginning.

Harry awoke and headed directly into the shower by habit. It was as he was leaving the stall and looked into a mirror that he realized his scar was slightly red and a little sore to the touch. He couldn’t recall any dreams or nightmares. He shrugged and left to get dressed.

Breakfast in the Great Hall was a silent affair with most students eating and studying or whispering to their friends. The throne at the head of the hall remained empty despite McGonagall already accepting the Headmistress position. Harry waited for his friends to join him and then sat in silence as they discussed their evening in the same quiet whispers as the rest of the Hall.

“Let’s go to the Library, I want to look something up really quick.” Hermione mentioned to the two boys. They both nodded and got up together as Hermione led the way. Spots of bright light appeared in front of Harry’s eyes as he walked; the world tilted on it’s side and he began to fall. As he fell the only thought he could muster was ‘Voldemort’.

As Harry came to, a voice in his head was muttering about hollow or hallow or something and it left as quickly as it came. He sat up as Hermione and Ron both worried over him and asked him the usual questions that came up when this sort of thing happened. Their questions immediately turned to Voldemort.

“What’s he doing now?” Ron asked. Harry shook his head slightly.
“I don’t know, it was on the tip of my tongue but it’s gone now. Something about maybe hollows, I’m not sure.” He answered.

“Are you sure you don’t need to go to the Hospital Wing?” Hermione asked. Harry nodded and got to his feet. The trio then continued on their path as harry and Ron began to bicker over Quidditch teams.

They got to the library and as they walked in Madame Pince glared at the three as if daring them to touch her precious books. Harry merely stared back, his emotions still wavering between annoyance and madness. He chose to remain blank and followed Hermione as she all but ran to the section she wanted to peruse. Harry followed at a sedate pace, eyeing the few other patrons. Hermione found what she was looking for and took it to get checked out. Before they could leave though, Pince spoke up.

“Harry Potter, you must return the book you took out two weeks ago or pay the fine.” Harry was stopped short. What book had he taken out?
“What was the name of the book Madame?” he asked. She cleared her throat and muttered a charm.

“It was called Tales of Beadle the Bard.”

Never seen it before, but to be honest, I wouldn't want this to be mine if I were in your place.

I've... read this before. Yes, I've definitely read this before. The odd word choices, the inflections... wow, this is a weird feeling.

Perhaps it was something once posted in the WbA? I don't tend to do an awful lot of reading besides there, and even then I've mostly only read the bad ones to amuse myself. Maybe have a look around there?

This seems familiar for some reason, especially the "Power with a capital P" part. *shrugs*

Thanks Vash. And I've looked through my PMs and there's one to Dwitbal that I don't remember sending either, so I'm a little puzzled. But this is definitely not mine.

    I've found who's written that!

On another note, I've made a couple of searches with phrases taken from this - including parts of the disclaimer as it has a unique style that I doubt many use - and nothing. Nada. (except this thread).

So either you wrote that while you were in your second personality - though the other personality obviously doesn't share your disdain for disclaimers which you never (or rarely) use as I found out with my amazing "Sherlock Holmes" skills, or something weird is happening with your account. :p

I've read this before, I vaguely remember it - it's been quite a while, though.

Edit: I especially remember the “I don’t know, it was on the tip of my tongue but it’s gone now. Something about maybe hollows, I’m not sure.” and “It was called Tales of Beadle the Bard.” soon after, I remember puzzling over that for a while.

    It was probably on FFN.

"Power with a capital P" is used in The Dresden Files pretty frequently IIRC.

I think I read this before too, or something very like it. The scene with Dobby and the letters was very familiar, as was the several times something was described as American... I seem to recall something about dimension hopping and Hedwig turning into a girl. Pretty lulzy, but I could be completely off. Might be the same author at least, though: that's a pretty.. uhh... 'unique' style.

If this was on any of the usual fanfiction websites, Google would turn it up. Though I don't think Google's allowed into our WBA section, maybe it was in there?
