It started off really good but the last couple of chapters have been going down hill. We will find out when the author updates.

I tend to agree with you. I think harry should fall for Luna or Slitherlin green grass.

I just find it completely unrealistic that Harry could be abused. If accidental magic could apparate you to the top of a building when running from a bunch of kids, then it could apparate you to any place you felt safe when you are being beaten by your oaf of an uncle.

Most author's tend to avoid that by saying Harry felt that he deserved the beating. But you're right. Unless they already had a weakened Harry, I have a hard time believing his magic wouldn't do something about abuse.

This fic is one of my favourites. I like dark Harry and I like HHr.(I think she's what Harry needs to get stronger. He needs to study. She's also one of the few who would be able to keep up with him. Besides be honest. When Harry is paired with someone like fem Blaise she is almost always descripted like some dark Hermione.)
I don't like the abuse though. As mentioned before: accidental magic? After that it does get better. The author also uses quite a few original ideas as how to get stronger.

    Slow to update

It's a vary good fic the only problum(sp?) I have is that he/she is sloooooooow to update. anyone know why??

The idea sounds so bizarre, but I tried it. I read into it quite a bit, up to where Harry was sent to kill Remus. The idea seems forced, and I believe that it would have worked better if it started after fourth year. I hate abusive Dursleys, and when Harry started talking to Remus, it seemed very out of character. Where was the dark and mostly heartless Harry that the author tried to build up? I could not see this Harry walking up to an Order member who had been his parent's friend, and his professor for only one year and spilling all that he knew. I think the idea could have been done much better.

My brother in law pointed this thread out to me earlier today, so I had a quick read.

Seems there are a few people here interested in the story at least. The reason it hasn't been updated in so long is because I needed to knuckle down on my university work to the exclusion of all else for a while. After exams were over, I spent most of my spare time trying to back up 400 gigs of stuff from my hard drives (Which I found to be no easy task... I tell you :p)

Having said that, a couple of days ago I picked up reading the story from the beginning again to make sure I caught any lose ends that I could, not mentioning a few plot holes I found along the way  I'll be ready to start writing again soon.

So there's a lot of people that don't like it, there's a lot of people that do. I'm not surprised as it has been my first venture into writing in public space. I've learnt a lot of things to do and not to do.

A lot of the character types in the story I don't even like, eg, abusive!vernon, manipulative!dumbledore, submissive!McGonagall but that's been something to spice up the story a bit for me, and certainly for others, your choice of favourite relationships is your own choice.

You guys certainly have a few interesting things that I'd missed out on, accidental magic etc. It honestly hadn't occured to me. (Someone even pointed out to me that the Dursleys had a key lock on the inside of their house! Whoops!)

But yeah, in the end, the biggest problem the fic has, is that it was a challenge fic and because I tried my hardest not to break any of the rules until the last couple of chapters, I lost a lot of creative license. Honestly, for those that read more than the first two chapters, you honestly don't think Harry would have run away from Hogwarts altogether to get away from it all? :S I don't think either of them would have even CONSIDERED using Voldemort as an ally. *shrugs*

I just read this story and I think its good. I don't like how he limits it, but as a challenge fic that can be expected and its arguable who the actual bad guy is, Voldemort or Dumbledore and that's sightly annoying, but not enough to kill the fic.

The major problem with this fic is the same problem that DH has. Hermione is the god button solution to all the worlds problems. However it is far less like that then DH as Harry actually is still quite good.

I get a lot of reviews call this a Evil harry fic, or an Evil Hermione fic, but its more a case of no matter what Harry and Hermione are surronded by Evil and they pick the side that they consider the lesser Evil. However I wont deny that they both become very cruel.

    Plot is good
Originality is argueable. The author seemed to stick to cannon spells which limits what you can do.
Grammar and spelling is up to standard
Harry goes dark a little fast but it doesn't have the usual, 'you can kill people with light spells' moment, which is always a bonus.

    I give it a 3.9/5

And a warning I am going to be doing this a lot with old fics. I am new to the site and its always a good idea to have the older fics re looked at.

Parts were annoying as hell, but it's still extremely readable. 3.5/5

Wow this is really old. I still remember way back when this was first posted. I remember it being somewhat readable and a timewaster at the time but I dont think I read all of it.

I think the author was definitely restricted by the challenge; that said, I'm still going to evaluate it as it is. It was readable and interesting enough that I read through the whole thing, but I think it's more of a "get rid of time" fic and not worthy to be in the library. There are a lot of cliches (I'm not sure if they were cliches when this was written, but I don't care) and I'm particularly turned off by the whole pregnancy at age 16 thing. Also, Hermione is basically a dom and can do no wrong and knows everything, which annoys me. The fic also has its good points; the OCs aren't horrendous and the plot is reasonably interesting. This all balances out making me give a 3/5.

for tl;dr: mostly enjoyable to pass time, but not library quality.

This is the first fic in this genre I read, and it is vastly superior to those who came after it.

It has it share of problems, the constricting challenge included, but Harry's killings and awesome sequences make up for them.

Meh. If it's in the Recycling Bin, and it's older than a couple years, it's never gonna leave the Recycling Bin.

Standards are even higher now than they were back then (I've read some of the fics that got the 'pass' two years ago - a few wouldn't even make the 'bin now).

Of course, I might be surprised, who knows.

Oh, and the story is a decent - but by this point painfully redundant - independant!Harry. I'll give it 3/5.

This story is actually quite decent. While some of the things appear routine and uninspired now, I am not sure that they were cliches at the time when it was written. Even now, it is a good read.

    So, final score: 4/5
