Well, to be honest this fic had been coming for a long while.

It's fairly predictable, but as it is not the point for anyone familiar with the both sides of crossover, it doesn't really matter. It's fun, short, with a surprising wanna-be-worldbuilding for 1k words. It doesn't hide its revelation, but it rather baths in it, trying to get out as much as possible out of the idea, and I think it succeeds in it. Writing is solidly consistent.

I think this is peak almost recommended for me, having a slight potential as a longer fic, but obviously unrequited.

4/5 just to pay homage to the haphne.

 

It was... fine. Just plays its premise straight without any sort of twist or arc. In terms of content, if you have read the summary, you have read the fic. That means the fic rides completely on its execution as a matter of writing style - the author's ability to get you quickly invested and feeling something. In that, it does not succeed.

The biggest flaw is Harry's complete emotional absence from the scene. He's depicted as too stupid to understand what is happening, and he seems to have no reaction to the revelation when it is finally spelled out to him. No betrayal, no despair, no regret. We don't really get inside his head at all, except to see what a completely empty desert it is. As a result, the story lacks any kind of emotional heart.

As matters stand, it probably would have worked better as just a conversation between Daphne and Dumbledore, without Harry there.

It's decent, nothing more. Like, about the only surprising bit was the fact I was expecting

Apart from that, there's only one plot point in the story, and the fic just makes you try to guess it again and again in case the words "Dresden crossover" in the summary weren't enough. It's not too long that it becomes annoying, but there's really nothing else to it, especially since as Taure said Harry's emotional presence is borderline negative. I suppose it might be a bit more mysterious if one didn't know anything about Dresden, but then again I'm not sure a reader who's unfamiliar with it would realise the impact of the reveal.

All in all, it's basically peak average: it is decent at what it is, but what it is isn't much of anything at all. 2,5 probably rounded up for Daphné.
