In the best interests of this thread, I will attempt to consider a story in which Harry is female... that is not awful. To do this we must consider the following pitfalls to avoid:

1. Calling Harry Harriet (Harrietta maybe is passable, but by gods call her something else); come on, really? I shouldn't even need to explain this.
2. Ron/Hermione friendship. No, I don't think this would work honestly. Hermione was drawn to the Ron/Harry dynamic, which wouldn't exist if Harry was a girl (Ron wasn't mature enough to handle a friendship with a girl, not without male Harry's presence). If Harry was a girl, even if he was treated the exact same way as a kid, he'd definitely have a different temperent due to social norms n' shit. Female Harry would go sit with some girls on the train, not Ron. Secondly, while she might become friends with Hermione, Hermione is such a tomboy, I find it difficult to believe their friendship would ever be that strong. Maybe I'm just imagining female Harry as being very feminine, but... I guess what I'm saying here, is female Harry should have a distinctively different outlook - you can't just stick the same relationships onto her like it'll just work out the same way it did in canon.
3. Draco/Snape relationship is straight up NOPE. Now, if Harry LOOKED like Lily, like really resembled her in a lot of ways, I could totally see Snape going MUCH easier on her, because I think he'd have that distinct fondness. But that wouldn't translate into a lolita style romance. Come the fuck on. Gross. Besides, as greasy as Snape is, he's not like that. Give the man some credit.


And that's it, honestly. #2 and maybe some of #3 might cause some divergence from canon, but honestly not enough to make the story interesting. Now, if you kept the Prophecy as "His" and made Harry a girl, that might be enough of a change to make the story interesting (female Harry is either the unknowing slayer of Voldemort, but Dumbledore doesn't have an inkling of it; or he's not the slayer at all), but even then...

 

Since Fem Harry would be hot would Ron chase after her instead of Hermione? Would Draco and other Death Eaters try to rape her? Would Ginny be a lesbian?
