    Have to agree there.

I wouldn't be sure I'm the last person on Earth until I'd done some checking. After that I'd probably try to sate my boredom by going to various government agencies across the world and digging up various secrets before doing other various things I couldn't do as a member of a civilised society (steal a jet fighter? blow things up?)

After that I'll probably end up a drug addict before OD'ing (probably accidentally) on something.

Power plants would stop working after several days or less.

Gasoline and other fuels would degrade into being useless after several years maybe less.

Food in stores would rot and eventually expire.

Flames from unattended fires would burn down entire cities.

Without maintenance, many structures and building would turn to ruin in a decade.

Trapped household pets would die of starvation.

Nuclear power plants would eventually meltdown and crate massive radiation which would spread with wind.

    I'd have to:

    - hunt animals and farm food.
    - find a source of clean drinkable water.
    - make my own source of electricity.
    - secure a way to heat my shelter and water.

After taking care of all this, I'd be able to do anything else.

I'd go to Scotland, find a big castle, and imagine I'm living in Hogwarts.

I'd imagine it would be a lot like Zombieland, and I would be a lot like Tallahassee -- get as many weapons as I can, the nicest, safest car possible, and probably go on a nation-wide search to find survivors (and my favorite snacks).

Truthfully, I'd probably end up living out of a dispensary in the Rockies, while growing my own vegetables. Probably make it a good six-seven years on my own before I make a mistake and get bitten by a snake or something in the woods.

That's the one, thanks mate. It was just that image that stayed with me, for such a high budget film it was really lackluster.

Yeah, I'd be screwed. I have zero survival skills, and while I may be very introverted even I would get lonely very quickly.

Assuming I really was the Last Man on Earth and I knew I was, I would just go on a rampage. Have a few days or weeks doing whatever the hell I wanted. And then find the coolest but painless way to commit suicide when I either start running low on supplies or just can't stand the loneliness anymore.

Go to the nearest public library and grab ALL the books. It's probably a safe bet that something in there will help me survive by myself. Step 2 would be to break my glasses and lose all hope.

Initial survival plans would be as Jon said, a massive download session. Also travel to local and not-so-local bookstores and libraries to get lots of books, both fiction and survival. Gorge myself on the perishables, store non-perishables. Get a fully electric car and solar panel system, trailer. Get a couple dogs, survival supplies, break some shit.

I could make do on consuming media for a while, probably a couple years. There's already a huge backlog of stuff I need to watch/read, and I have a tendency to re-read stuff so it will last me a while. After that, I'll probably travel around. See museums, mountain ranges, the redwood trees in California, Grand Canyon. I'll stick to the more settled areas mostly. I could probably manage a propeller plane, fly over to Europe. Do the same thing there.

I'd imagine that I wouldn't live long enough to become suicidal. I'd probably catch some disease or have an accident or be attacked by wildlife and die. I'd give myself about five to ten years before I kick it, more if I'm lucky.

Although I might eventually succumb to loneliness, I'd try to survive for as long as possible.

The eastern coast of Australia is pretty far away from any nuclear plants, so I'd hopefully be fine in terms of radiation.

First I'd visit the local Air Force and Army bases to scavenge guns, ammo, rations, and other useful things. Pharmacies and hospitals for medication. Petrol stations for fuel. Hardware shops for tools. Shopping centres for drinks, non-perishable foods, batteries, etc. Clothing outlets for foot wear and clothes. Camping stores for tents and various outdoor supplies. Liquor stores for copious amounts of alcohol. Gardening stores for fruit and vegetable seeds. Libraries for useful books (both for survivalism and for entertainment). Basically I'd take my pick of all the things one needs to survive and even live comfortably.

Then I'd drive out to a nice farm and try to figure out how agriculture and animal husbandry works based on relevant books. I'd want a couple of good dogs (breeds suited for guarding and hunting), some cats to keep vermin away, horses for riding, a bunch of chickens for eggs, some cows for milking, pigs, etc. Also a good fruit, nut, herb and vegetable garden, and some marijuana plants.

A lot of this would be hard to learn, but I'd make sure to stockpile huge amounts of food rations and water so I have time to get my head around it all. Besides, it probably doesn't take too much effort to feed one person if you have sufficient plants and livestock, and necessity is the mother of all invention, as they say.

I'd also try really hard to get my farmstead powered, maybe with solar? Again, something I'd have to learn how to do from books. Electricity wouldn't be essential, but it would sure make life more comfortable.

I don't know how long I'd last with just the company of animals, but at least I could try.

Hrm, is there any way to IVF in another animal. Assuming one had the necessary background in such science, what animal would be the most viable for carrying a human embryo?

Uhm, pretty sure that even if all humans disappeared except me, there would probably still be some eggs and sperm stored in cryogenic chambers and whatnot right?

Probably try to save those first and see if I could repopulate the Earth.

Oh, and get really good at 1v5ing bots in League. That too.

I could see if the last person on earth was a woman, but if your a guy what would you do with the stored sperm and eggs?

    Figure out in vitro fertilization?

    EDIT:
    Basically what Nuit was saying.

I was under the impression that in vitro fertilization meant that you fertilized an egg outside of the body and then put it into a female for the rest of the growth cycle. Hence the female requirement.

Unless someone's come up with an artificial womb somewhere, yeah.

As for IVF in an animal, well, besides being pretty gross, I've never heard of it happening.

    Well...

    As I am a woman...

Ugh. That would suck. I would not want to become the new "Eve" and have my life dedicated into impregnating myself, giving birth alone and then trying to raise an army of children to repopulate the human race.

Just some food for thought. If you where the last woman on earth and you used frozen sperm to successfully get pregnant ten times for example the kids would still run into the incest problem pretty quickly.

The point is you need multiple men and women that are closely related to successfully create a new batch of humans who could continue to repopulate the world.

I find hard to believe being able to survive one year without going insane- never mind ten or more years- doing just regular things. Don't underestimate the situation, it's complete loneliness - save for pets.

In my opinion, I wouldn't be able to survive for long without some kind of big goal to achieve preventing me from going mental. Maybe some big effort to try to check if I really am the last one, or some kind of big project to leave something to remember the human race to some hypothetical future beings. That is, if I find the motivation to do it, but I guess the situation would provide it.

I'd steal every single credit card I could find, use them to buy every video game on the market, then play games until I die.

Why steal credit cards when you can just walk into any electronics store and empty the shelves?
