This article made me laugh, thank you for linking it. Although the way it was written leaves a certain degree of ambiguity that makes me not entirely sure what the author was exactly trying to say.

I agree with some things and disagree with others, but if he was trying to say that Hermione is the better character who should have been the protagonist... meh.

As much as I love Hermione (and I do) she is obnoxious at times, bossy, a know-it-all, and is not impulsive enough to really garner the attention of your average reader. If the Harry Potter series was instead the Hermione granger series they simply would not have sold anywhere close to as well.

I love the mocking of the cliches and such though. Thanks!

This. I hate it when people who have nothing to say in defense of JKR pull out that argument Or the equally annoying "millions of people outside of DLP love canon" defense. Both of those could also be applied to Twilight and half-a-dozen other shitty works.

I personally didn't find the article the slightest bit funny. It was an accurate, satirical summation of what was wrong in the HP series with a certain wry tone, but funny? Not for me. And it was pretty clear it had an agenda, which instantly turns me off a work, no matter what the agenda.

    This.

I found this article funny because I didn't take it seriously. Interpret it how you will: mocking chastisement of Hermione's character, tongue-in-cheek commentary on Rowling's many examples of nearly coming to doing something of literary significance, or a straight up parody of the critical response to the series, but don't take it too seriously like half the people posting in this thread have.

The author is clearly taking the piss.
