I know the movie is not out in America yet, but we in Germany got to see it today and I have to say it was worth every cent. Great dialog, great acting, great story, great everything. Until now, I wasn't really a fan of Quentin Tarantino but with this film, it might change. I won't spoil anything but I can just advise you to go and watch it, a really incredible movie. Just one thing: Hans Landa is one magnificent bastard.

I still don't get the deliberate misspelling.

There was an older movie out called "Inglorious Bastards". I think Tarantino changed the spelling to differentiate from that movie.

Is it just senseless violence against a totally evil Nazi wemacht?

If it is, I'm skipping this one. I can't get over the fact that most of those poor German soldiers were doing what any of us during the time of war - answer the call of duty.

...On the other hand, if its against SS or commanding Nazi (rather than run of the mill German soldats) I'm all for it.

Well, there is senseless soldier murdering, but the main core of the movie is the preparation to assassinate Hitler and the top of the Nazi regime at a cinema. I have to admit, they could have left out a lot of gore, without damaging the movie, the trailer is serious when the lieutenant talks about scalps, on the other hand it has a lot of suspense and great dialog which makes more then up for it.

But it is not a senseless action/gore movie.

Well, I'm certainly going to watch this movie when it hits cinemas. Quintin Tarantino + good casting makes for a movie with a lot of potential. Add WW2 to the mix and voila!
As the guys above me said, I just hope it's not a Germans=Nazi=Evul movie.

You can't really take the gore out of a Quentin Tarantino movie, otherwise it's just not the same. It'd be like Kill Bill without the killing. Also, I'm going to watch this tomorrow so I'll put up a proper review then.

Ok I just got back from this and all I have to say is Wow. The diallage is what really does it for this one and like Nemrut said Hans Lander is awesome. While I am not a very big Bradd Pitt fan, I have to admit he was pretty fucking good. I really don't want to give anything away, just be prepared for a crazy ride.

Hans Landa is a magnificent bastard.

I loved this one, but I'll admit to being a bit of a Tarantino whore. I imagine that some will dislike the bits that dragged on a lot (But I liked them more in hindsight), and some of the characterisations, but I digress. Brad Pitt did good here, Cristolph Waltz (Hans Landa) was especially brilliant, and Melanie Laurent (Shoshanna) did an admirable job (Especially during the ending area). Ending was spectacular.

I'll be back later with a review.

Seeing tonight, after my guitar lessons, so I can't wait.

    Will post review here after.

Edit: It was awesome. That's all I can really say. I mean it's Tarantino so most here will know what it's like. The movie is filmed from the points of view of several different people, Pit is just one of them.

I'll try to keep this free of spoilers because a lot of people haven't seen the movie yet.

In short: It was freaking awesome! Although I saw the German dub in which the English dialogue had been translated, I still enjoyed listening to French characters speaking French, German characters speaking German etc; it's a nice change from the usual. I'll probably still try to catch the original version in theatres, though - and I'll definitely watch it when the DVD is released.

I had been looking forward to seeing Christoph Waltz's performance as Hans Landa. He doesn't disappoint, his scenes are some of the best the whole piece has to offer.

Unfortunately, Brad Pitt stays somewhat in the background, even though he has a lot of screentime. I saw a few scenes with him in a 'Making of...' in the original version, maybe it was the dub that took away some of the quality. It wouldn't be the first time.

This movie is one of the few where Til Schweiger's performance (he's the guy who plays the German psychopath Basterd) is not cringe-inducing. Maybe it's because he didn't have a lot of text, I just can't stand his voice.

Has anyone else seen it or is planning to?

Saw it about two days ago... as Sophie said it's freaking awesome. Landa was exceptional and suitably creepy, Brad was good. It was so much fun though, the audience jsut kept on cracking up. Sophie how did you like the sex scene :p ?

How often did you guys find yourself thinking "you bastard" when you saw Hans Landa speak? This was what made me enjoy the film the most.

    SPOILER:

Especially when he started to demand gratifications, a house, a place in history as the "good guy". You have to have balls to do that.

You know, most movies about World War Two are based in fact. Knowing this, I got right up to the part where
two Jewish guys bust in on Hitler while he's at the movies and shoot him in the face
before I thought that this might not have happened at all.

    Still an enjoyable movie, though.

It had to be the dub, or you weren't watching the same movie that I was. Brad Pitt stole every scene he was in from my perspective - even the ones in which he had no lines.

Hearing him talk with that accent was highly amusing, and his lines were excellent.

It was decent, but not that amazing. It is worth watching at least once though.

I really loved this movie. Might even go see it again.

The scene where they played David Bowie - Cat People (Putting Out Fire) was pretty good.

And near the end where you can see her [Shosanna's] face in the smoke, and hear her maniacal laughter? Just pure win.

Another funny part was when they were required to speak Italian and they only knew a couple of words. Brad Pitts Italian accent was hilarious.

I had to cover my eyes when they did the scalping. My mum wouldn't look at the screen until i assured her it was over. We are both a bunch of pansys. :D

Also learned a fun fact about film strips. I'll be putting the away for later. ;)

I absolutely loved this movie, Tarantino really did a marvelous job. The gore was expected, and the Italian accent's were ridiculous. The dialogue was the best part for me though, great interaction between the characters and some humor thrown in the mix as well.

A must see movie all around.

I would have preferred a little more focus on the Basterds, but still a very good movie. One complaint I had was that it felt a little masturbatory in places, with so much focus on the art of film making from a noted cinemaphile like Tarantino.

It did drag in parts, but never so much that you got bored.
