Ok, I have a weird problem and I was hoping I could get some of the resident computer people to give some advice. I live in a dorm room with 2 other guys, we have 3 internet jacks and 3 Ethernet cable plugged in. We also play Xbox live however, and whenever we switch one of the Ethernet cables in the jack out and put the Xbox live one in my internet stops working. It also happens when we take the Xbox live one out and put another back in. Does anyone know why this happens? Also do they make splitters so we could hook up all the Ethernet cables at once?

 

Yea there are splitter-like devices, I belive that they are called splitters here at Amazon. You can probably pick 2 up cheaper some where else. Are you using a router and do you have a filter attached before anything gets connected?

 

No router, straight up plugged into the jack in the wall. I looked for internet splitters at a few stores, however I had no luck. Thanks

 

I just want to clarify real quick.

When you plug the X-Box in, it kill the internet to just one computer, or to everyone's computer?

 

It seems to be just mine.

 

Have you tried switching up the order in which the computers are plugged in? (I.E.: Move your computer to a different jack while the xbox is plugged in, or move the xbox to a different jack and see if the problem is the same?)

Internet splitters are aptly named switches.

 

Yeah, my computer does it in any jack its plugged into unfortunately.
