    Hello everyone!

    I'm here to introduce all you boys and girls to the wondrous world that is an authors 'Rational Number'.

    What is the 'Rational Number' you ask?

    Why, it's the fan fiction equivalent of the Kevin Bacon Number, or Erdos number of course!

    Simply put;

    Bacon number:

    Erdos number:

    Thus the following is proposed:

    The Rational Number
    The Rational number describes the 'fanfiction favorite'
    distance between fanfiction author Less Wrong and
    another author. The higher the number, the less
    Rational you are! If your number is 5 or greater
    then you are in fact IRRATIONAL.

    Less Wrong has a Rational Number of 0.

    Rorscharch's Blott has a Rational Number of 1.
    The Santi has a Rational Number of 1.
    @Joe has a Rational Number of 1.

    Jbern has a Rational Number of 2.
    Ruskbyte has a Rational Number of 2.
    Surarrin (me) has a Rational Number of 2.

    So, authors of DLP, tell me. how Rational are you?

    3, as far as I can see. It would be more fun if we had a tool doing this. Considering that some people have > 1000 favs you'd have to limit the search depth, but we could then just call anyone further away than <x> "irrational" :D

    I'm pretty sure the extensive favorites list of Neoalfa guarantees most DLP authors have a RN of 2 or 3.

    At the very least, it's 3 for me, but I can't be sure. You'd need to run a graph tool using something like Dijkstra's to find the shortest path, but who has time for that?

    Turns out Jeram's actually got a RN of 2, for instance. There's improvements to be made yet, like showing who linked to you. I'll post it and my code when I've got the kinks worked out.

    I'm a bit confused. Rorshach's doesn't actually have anything on his favorite story list (only favorite authors), but since lesswrong has a rorshach story on his, as does clell, that counts?

    -edit- apparantly according to BTT's list, I'm a 2. I was honestly expecting to me a 5+. Now, I have to figure out who the link is and scold them for their bad taste.

    Alright, got home from class, overhauled the algorithm a little, and here are the prettier results for RN 2:

    An attempt to get started on authors with RN 3 failed at line 14548, though. Thanks to the method I'm using that should hopefully be easy to start up again. I'll keep you guys posted.

    What does it do if there are multiple equal paths to the same number? Like, for all I know there could be two different people linking me, so does it just find the first link and stop after that?
