I'm sure anyone in IRC has already noticed this, because it already drives me crazy. It's always just "connection reset by peer", but I'm not sure what (if any) settings I can change.

    I'll copypasta from Stack Overflow.

This means that a TCP RST was received and the connection is now closed. This occurs when a packet is sent from your end of the connection but the other end does not recognize the connection; it will send back a packet with the RST bit set in order to forcibly close the connection.

"Connection reset by peer" is the TCP/IP equivalent of slamming the phone back on the hook. It's more polite than merely not replying, leaving one hanging. But it's not the FIN-ACK expected of the truly polite TCP/IP converseur.

    Informative, but not very helpful.

    Try these two:

    http://docs.dal.net/docs/connection.html
    http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/networks//connectprob.html

They're more helpful, but only to tell you that it's a bitch to diagnose. Make sure that everything on your end is right. Windows is up to date. No connection issues with your router?

Check if Winsock is corrupt [probably not, but it'll cause headaches if it is.

If you've got everything on your end arranged properly, then there isn't much else you can do.
