For me, the non-selectable text is a huge annoyance. I like to select the text as I read, but still, if there's a story hosted on FF.net, I'm going to read it there if no better options exist.

The only thing that has changed for me is my taste. I prefer Asoiaf and Worms fics nowadays, which are rarely hosted on fanfiction.net. If more authors from sufficient velocity and space battles hosted their stuff on FF.Net, I'm sure I'd spend more time there.

 

If you're on desktop, then any browser that allows the user to run scripts can fix that. Chrome and Firefox for certain. Others too. You need to find the right userscript for fanfiction.net and run it.

If you're on mobile, then Opera Mini makes text selectable immediately. (edit: Download points out that the mobile version always has selectable text).

 

You can also use the mobile version of FF.net (m.fanfiction.net). Last time I checked it allowed selecting text.
