Can you tell me with absolute certainty that all adults understand this? If not, why not prohibit those that don't of having sex as well?

... Cmon you know that's a ridiculous argument right? At least I hope you do.

But to take you seriously for a moment. Many adults get into abusive or coercive relationships. Sometimes because they don't understand these things properly. But consenting adult relationships are not by their nature unequal. When you reach adulthood you are considered cognitively competent enough to make your own choices and therefore have the freedom to do so. If you are not deemed as such due to disability, mental illness etc then in many cases agencies step in to monitor and safeguard your relationships to try and keep you from being abused.

We don't let children join the military, marry (mostly,) vote, drink, drive, before the age of majority either, precisely because we don't consider them easily influenced and unable to fully comprehend the consequences of their actions.

    Hmm, I'm not Rhaegar.

I don't think it's ridiculous. The question is if it is morally wrong of Tonks to start a relationship with Harry. Assuming that Tonks would not take advantage of Harry, and knew the consequences of their relationship, I don't see how it would be wrong by default, knowing that Harry has the sexual feelings and understands it (something that children don't). The deciding point, I think, should be Tonks intentions. It would probably be morally wrong anyway if she went into a relationship with an over-age Harry planning to take advantage of him or the relationship.

Whoops for some reason I thought Rhaegar had gone for a name change. My apologies to Rhaegar.

The reason it would be morally wrong is because the power dynamics are in play no matter what her intentions are. He is still a 14/15 year old boy who has never had a relationship and she is still a adult law enforcement officer at times tasked to protect him from magical terrorists and is a member of the organisation that includes and protects practically everyone he cares about. As the adult she should recognize the implications of entering into a relationship with him even aside from the underage thing and avoid it. He as the teenager would probably be totally happy to get with the hot shape-shifting chick but would not be able to see the wider implications because he would not have the insight/experience etc of an adult to either comprehend or attempt to navigate it.

There are plenty of adults rotting in prison who would say they went into their underage relationship without any intention of exploiting their victim or coercing them into anything.

Are you trying to upset me?

Again, that applies to most adults. Just because they became adults don't mean they automatically understand these things. So all that backs that view is law. Many such cases in the past that underage and bosses/coworker relationships worked. Many didn't. It's about intentions. If cross everyone as having bad intentions by default then it's really about control.

Not intentionally. Do you find someone explaining to you the effects of age and power on the capacity to consent upsetting?

I'm not trying to ruin hot Harry/Tonks for anyone. Fiction is fiction for a reason. Its in the real world such things don't fly.

it really depends on your definition of morals. Is it legality or is there an inherent objective wrongness about it? If you look at the world of harry potter, it seems to be closer to victorian england than modern england. Historically speaking until 1929 a girl as young as 12 could marry without the consent of her parents, in 1929 the age changed to 16. In france, the age was 12 then in 1799 went to 13 then in 1803 to 15 and stayed at 15 until 2003 when it went to 18.
As far as the morality of the pairing, is it ever against morals for 2 people who are actually in love to be together? It may be ILLEGAL, but that does not necessarily make it IMMORAL

Is any teenager ever truly in love? Love is something learned. I'd be more likely to agree to an argument of infatuation before I ever would one of love.

Love is something that is sold because the idea is appealing. Greatest romances of all time have been fictionalized and age has never been an issue because in the eyes of the author love and age do not equal the same thing. One is a standard and one is an idea.

People are arguing way too logically about something that really isn't an issue.

Morality arguments are like watching paint dry. How many times can someone bring up consent laws in the context of a fictional world. We're quickly approaching way too many at this point.

I'll have to disagree with you about love, simply because I don't believe you just casually came to the answer of the age-old question of "What is love?'

No I'm not casually explaining love. I'm giving common uses of it in media and literature and stating that a teenager doesn't know fuck all about love. Considering my relative age I feel like I'm more informed than most, considering life experiences - children and having been married for the past 11 years.

This is not definitive proof love can't blossom in teenagers. That's projecting your own experience on them. For all you know, you're the one who couldn't fall in love then.

EDIT: can we take a moment to appreciate how we're arguing about the nature of love

Teenagers not knowing fuck from all is as old as time. Sure, there are exceptions but it's pretty much an a priori truth. Even for more mature teenagers, by the time they're 25 they look back and cringe at their 16 year old selves. Nothing really objectionable about that unless you're 16 yourself, in which case you'll look back in ten years and cringe with us.

They don't have prior experience with love, as with many things, and that makes their judgment subject to second guessing. I don't trust an apprentice carpenter as much as a master, no matter how prodigious. Takes a few broken eggs and broken hearts before they have any idea what's what.

A valid point, but we can't rule them all because of the majority. I feel Dumbledore (despite his fandom image) would agree with me here. #NotAllTeenagers
