I'm looking for a decent story where either James or Lily or both survive the events of Halloween, 1981, or they return to life sometime later in canon.

I've read Harry Potter and the Greater Good, as well as The Substitute.

The second part to Barb's trilogy doesn't count, hah.

If anybody knows anything half-decent (not Anything's Possible, that thing's a piece of crap) I'd like to read it.

Read Santi's "Harry Potter and the Boy Who Lived"? James and Lily survive there. One of my favorite fics.

 

Oh, well... yes, I have in fact read that. I thought it would be obvious, being a DLP member, but I guess not

And for those that read this, I have read most of the big-name Twin/WBWL stories. Kwan Li's, LotW's, and of course I haven't read Unsung Hero. Lol.

I have actually read Unsung Hero. Once upon a time I enjoyed it...can't really remember it anymore though to be honest. Probably would have quite different tastes now.

Apart from the 'obvious' ones, I can't really think of anything else that's actually good off the top of my head. As you said, most *are* twin BWL stories, or "travel to alternate dimension" fics which I'm assuming aren't quite what you are looking for?

The third part of Nonjon's trilogy, You Did What! contains James, Lily, and Sirius. It's probably not exactly what you were thinking of but if you haven't read and are looking for something to read I highly recommend the entire trilogy, but especially the last installment.

Joe's Hero Trilogy. One of the alternate universes Harry goes to in the first story has James and Lily alive.

I just wrote a somewhat long-winded post recommending Anything's Possible, but wisely double checked before posting it. I quite disagree that it's a piece of crap - I highly enjoy it.

I lieu of that, I'll recommend The Darkness Within and it's two sequels. They seem to have a poor reputation on DLP for reasons that elude me, and you do disagree with me about Anything's Possible, but it's worth a shot.

 

Across the Universe is indeed very good.

@mknote: There's a reason the fics have a poor reputation on DLP. I had to stop reading after a few paragraphs lest I was overcome by the urge to claw my own eyes out.

Probably cause it's Harry/Ginny, and that seems to be treated almost as bad as slash here.

I enjoyed it though. It's sequels were pretty fun too.

...and I totally didn't know he was rewriting it either. Cool.
