My main takeaway from this thread is that maybe I need to have another look at Butcher's non-Dresden writing; whenever I've seen this question raised before, I've kind of gone "yeah, it's not great, but it's a pretty clear character flaw in Dresden himself, and you don't see anything like it in, say, Codex Alera", but going by Randy's post, maybe I'm wrong.

I'd also say that the worst moment in this regard, for me, is the bit in I think Cold Days, where newly Knighted Dresden realises....Sarissa, maybe? is nervous around him, and takes a moment to explain all the awful things he could do to her but absolutely won't because he's a good guy at heart. That's a definite yikes moment.

 

It's true, a veritable buffet of hotties is constantly parading themselves past Dresden and offering to jump on his cock.

My main objection to this is how frequently he turns them down.

 

It strikes me that the whole Winter Knight thing would probably feel less sexist and creepy if Dresden, possessed by this monstrous alien force, had actually just raped someone instead of all this incel self congratulating bullshit.

It's always sort of been a problem, like every single women in the series with the exception of like two are described as supernaturally hot. That sort of thing really lost a lot of meaning many books ago, so when its still being hammered home, it just comes off as cringe. But that's par for the course, and Butcher is hardly the only male fantasy author who writes like that. If people want to argue if he's writing for himself verse writing for the demographic, well, I don't have a very high opinion of him (or the series) to begin with, so it wouldn't take much to convince me.
