While my gut reaction is Bio has hit it right on the money, I like to think that as a community we have grown beyond pronouncing a fic 'good' simply because it's about Mary-Sue Greengrass.

I think though a different approach is needed. Not just a 1-5, but a more detailed reason into why it gained a particular score.

    1:
    Belarus: Nothing redeeming at all.
Yugoslavia/Albania: Any good ideas were destroyed before it got going.

    2:
Ireland: Full of bashing and hot air. At least it's small.
Austria/Hungary/Czech Republic: There were a few gems.

    3:
Germany: A strong start that spiraled out of control. Ended up fizzing out.
Italy: A good idea perhaps but on organization at all.
Spain: Guilty pleasure - nice to get away from it all.

    4:
France: Slow start and a little pretentious at times but a very nice find nonetheless.
Norway: Some people will just fall in love with this.
Greece: If nothing else, it's the beginning of an era.

    5:
United Kingdom: Does everything it can to avoid being lumped with the rest of the pack. For the most part, succeeds.

Bio wins this one, IMO. As to the rest of you all, as long as you include the numbers as well as the author, I don't give fuck what system you use.

The numbers aren't so important. What's more useful is the substance in the review itself.

Eh, I guess. However, I feel my time has been completely wasted at the end, if I can't figure out what the author actually rates it.

The same could be said about any kind of rating, including those based on authors' names. A final rating is a good way to sum up and conclude a review. The advantage of a numerical rating is that it's pretty much universally understood (I personally haven't read fics from half the authors you mentioned), and is also the best way to tell whether or not you want the damn thing to be in the Library.

As a conclusion: meh. It's far from being the first time we've had people debate over WHAT DO NUMBERS MEAN TO YOU EXACTLY???

Despite what Vlad put as his location, I've always had a slight suspicion to exactly where he comes from.

    Also, Rule Britannia.

In fairness, the French have no problem fighting and winning - so long as the person leading them is either a woman or a foreigner.
