The fuck? This is one of the searchable Potter characters on ff(dot)net. There are all of two stories that feature him. Having never heard of him, I googled the name and got a bunch of unrelated crap. Then I googled the name with "Potter" tacked on at the end and learned that he was some briefly famous "half-vampire" singer. Why is this considered relevant to ff.net? What is a "half-vampire?"

    The world may never know.

I'm not sure even Rowling's knows, though it was mentioned as the Slug Party. I think it's similar to a veela. Fleur was a quarter veela.

As to that name. Their bulk of hits has to be from HP and Naruto, so whatever obscure name they can throw out there to keep the sheep clicking will be put in there. I can't look down on them for their decision, considering in their shoes I'd probably do something similar if it meant money coming in for the site. ( I don't have much honor when it comes to money and work.)

    So he's a canon abomination instead of a fan-made one. :|

I'd be worried if he didn't look like this:

...I think I would prefer a fan-made abomination in lieu of a canon abomination.

I just perused through the Wizards of the Month and they look pretty horrible. Seriously, some witch writing a book 'a year as a muggle'? And that image of the L. d'Eath is just... pathetic.

    A damphyr.

Please don't ask me why I know that: it's painful to recall.

    Ouch, Castlevania huh? :(

There are several other wizards of the months that by that criterion should also be on the character list. I don't know why anyone would bother going to such lengths as to include a half-vampire singer in their plot.

A grand total of two fics hold L. d'Eath's 'character' in their search parameters. One a slash story with Harry, and another a threesome fic with Ron and Molly in Azkaban. Logic of mine dictates the only way the name would've been added was if someone wanted it there and bugged an admin. The threesome monstrosity being the first one there, I'll assume the twisted fangirl got her way. Perhaps appealing to the twisted fangirls that run FF.net. Scary thought.

EDIT: Nope, logic seems flail-y. There's a "Lorcan d'Eath" in the search parameters with no fics to his name. Just some admin adding in random names from a wiki then? Or are L. d'Eath and Lorcan the same fella? Somebody be trippin'.

Nope, that was a different vampire guy. Sanguini.

Well, I've been responsible for adding in all the names for a fandom or two, and what happens is that you email them with a list of names to include - preferably abbreviated for them.

In my case I pinched every name I could find off the fandom's wikipedia page because if I only used the main characters there would undoubtedly be people who start writing stories where the main character is some small-time from canon. And that makes me feel annoyed.

So basically FF.net hardly has anything to do with the names they let through, other than that they exist in canon I suppose. I bet a lot of shit gets through the radar, but call me slightly obsessive on the matter - I'd much prefer the characters be labelled in the first place so that I may avoid the fuck out of reading them.

Makes sense, I suppose. Cheers for clearing that up.

Why in the world does the Mirror of Erised deserve a character filter? Also, who the hell is Sirius Black II?

    Holy fuck, it's actually there.
Too bad there are no stories for him. Who wants to give it a shot?

Is it just me, or is the Mirror of Erised a bit of a cop out? It's too easy. Stick a flat, shallow character in front of it, add some angst and inner turmoil, and BOOM!!, you've got a instant character development.

Want to give Voldemort a human side? Plop him down in front and have him lament over the family and friends he never had. Oh, he never wanted to hurt people, he was just angry at a world that wouldn't love him! And whatever you do, don't forget the tear in his eye as he turns away from what will never be!

Want to give Bellatrix a reason for insanity? Show her the mirror and watch her curse it when it shows her her child that died at birth! She just wanted to be a mommy!

It's cheap. If you're going for a character study, use something less obvious. :p
