Legends of Runeterra is an online card game, in the vein of Hearthstone or Gwent. There's an open beta happening right now, with a full release on pc (and mobile?) later in the year. It's based off the lore from the world of League of Legends, so there are many familiar faces and names alongside some new ones.

IDK/IDR a whole lot about other card games, but I think the method of getting cards is more generous than average. Keep playing, keep earning cards and card packs. Use the packs to make a deck from a maximum of 2 factions and then mash your cards together with random people (or bots if that's your thing). You can also go on an expedition, where you build a deck from a series of choices and try to win 7 games to achieve ultimate victory.

I've been having fun with it, even though I don't enjoy most other online card games. Maybe it's the LoL faces, maybe it's making a deck full of barriers to frustrate my opponent.

My favorite moment has been cloning Anivia with Dawn and Dusk (create two ephemeral versions of an ally) to give me 3 level 2 Anivias the following turn. I thought I took a screenshot, but apparently not.

Went 1 and 2 on my first Expedition for the week, but I had the shards to run a second, for 7 and 7, which got me the shards to run a third, for 7 and 6. =D

Apparently there is a free-play mode after you have done the three weekly Expeditions. Bonus experience(less?), based on run completion, but no champion chest or shards. I'm guessing it mostly exists to keep up population for the queue, but it's also nice to allow the play mode to be accessible in general.

I lost that game because they had 3 healths worth of elusive units once the turn was over.

Then there's this. 2 Karmas from Dawn and Dusk plus that card that transfers ephemeral. Then another Dawn and Dusk on Anivia, plus another two Dawns and Dusk from enlightened Karmas. It was mildly amusing seeing anivia getting smushed against the wall by the other anivias and forever being destroyed. I did manage to win this one. Also amusing is drawing the +1/+1 to allies everywhere spell from the pre-enlightened Karmas then using it once you get enlightened.

(I would have had an extra Anivia, but when I played the combo I had a 15/15 they who endure)

 

Currently on my 3rd Expedition of the week, so far I'm 1st run: 6 wins & 7 wins, 2nd run: 3 wins & 7 wins and 3rd run: 6 wins with my 2nd trial to be played tomorrow. These runs have allowed me to get my Vault to level 12. Hopefully my good luck continues as I need to get cards for a Yasuo/Katarina stun/rally deck that I want to play.
