    Bracket 12: Grindelwald vs Yaxley

Grindelwald - One of the most skilled and feared Dark Wizards of the last century (and possibly longer), a peer of Dumbledore's in terms of skill, knowledge, and charisma.

Yaxley - A senior death eater, experienced in combat. Under Voldemort's Ministry he was Head of DMLE, which suggests a level of competence over and above other death eaters in this regard. However in the books he was defeated by George Weasley and Lee Jordan working together - it took 2 reasonably skilled recent graduates to over come him, which suggests he's decently talented but nowhere near Dumbledore or Voldemort in skill.

The winner has to be Grindelwald. He probably didn't even have to wipe the floor magically with Yaxley, 5 minutes of conversation and Yaxley likely sided with Grindelwald.

    ---------------

Bracket 4: Fenrir Greyback vs Hermione Granger

They met on a dark night, two days before the full moon. Hermione was camping alone in the Forest of Dean, its paths familiar to her, and Fenrir had managed tracked her down. Once again, Hermione had forgotten the dangers of a werewolf's nose.

Fenrir inhaled deeply from beyond Hermione's Disillusionment Charm.

"Oh, my dear," he growled. "I can smell your cunt."

Immediately Hermione knew she would have to fight. She found herself uncertain at the prospect. Fenrir was well known and widely feared, but she was fairly sure he never actually attended Hogwarts. He surely knew little in the way of magic. For that matter, did he even have a wand?

There had to be a reason he was so feared, though, and he had evaded capture for many years, even before Voldemort's rise. He was not to be underestimated.

She made the first move. Wand jabbing forward, she silently cast a powerful Stunning Charm, red light flashing through the clearing, but Fenrir was already moving and her spell splashed harmlessly against a tree.

"Reducto!" Hermione shouted, abandoning non-verbal magic in her panic as Fenrir bounded towards her, his every step like a leap forward, reminding her more of a tiger than a wolf. Her Blasting Curse shot forward, but it too missed the approaching werewolf.

    He was almost upon her.

"Arboverto!" Hermione cast, wand trembling with fear, but her magic did not fail her. The trees circling the clearing lurched to life, their limbs swinging out like a Whomping Willow's. Just before Greyback reached her, his foot was caught by a low-swinging bow, upending him. His momentum carried him forward and he tumbled across the ground.

Hermione smiled tightly. She had the advantage.

She stepped towards where Fenrir was slumped on the ground. He wasn't moving. Had he hit his head?

Better to finish him off now, before he recovered. She stepped forward again, raising her wand to cast a powerful curse--only to trip on her robe.

It was just the smallest of stumbles, but it was enough. Greyback leapt to his feet, his arm swinging out, slapping Hermione's wand out of her hand with a crack.

Hermione gasped, unable to comprehend it. She didn't even have the time to run--Greyback was on her, tackling her to the ground, his powerful hands wrapping around her neck and squeezing.

Blood thumped in Hermione's ears as the pressure grew in her face. She struggled, but Fenrir was immovable, far stronger than her. Her vision began to swim as she lost what strength she had.

Fenrir bared his teeth, his yellow eyes bearing into hers as he squeezed the life out of her with a wild grin. He spat viciously, the large glob of saliva landing right in Hermione's gasping mouth--just as he always had in her deepest, darkest fantasies. Hermione came powerfully, and then she died.

    Winner: Fenrir Greyback

Bracket 11: Lucius Malfoy vs Ginny Weasley - The Grudge Match.

Lucius Malfoy - Experienced dark wizard, high ranking Death Eater. More of a social/political build than a combat character, but not incapable with a wand. Has a generic level of disdain for all Weasleys.

Ginny Weasley - Competent member of the DA, held her own the battles we saw her taking part in. Grew up with 6 older brothers. Career as a professional quidditch player so likely quite tough. Has a very specific hatred of Lucius, as she knows he was responsible for her getting possessed and used as a puppet by Voldemort.

Result: A long drag out fight where Ginny takes quite a few hits, but toughs them out and eventually takes Lucius out.

    Winner: Ginny Weasley

Bracket 10: Amelia Bones vs Remus Lupin

On the one hand, you have Amelia Bones who Voldemort killed personally and still put up a good fight. Head of the DMLE, a gifted witch, and seems to be a nice enough person.

On the other hand, you have Lupin. A competent DADA instructor with combat experience in the Order of the pheonix. He has severe self esteem issues over his werewolf curse and gets killed by Dolohov.

Result: I imagine the disparity between the two is enough that they trade a spell or two and then Lupin gets knocked out by a banished monocle.

    Winner: Amelia Bones
