For the past couple days I've been getting mobile popups saying "forums.darklordpotter.net wants to know your location".

I've been refusing it, but is this a legit thing? Are there site features that collect location data now?

This isn't something I've added or had happen to me at all. I wonder if it's Google Analytics getting too frisky -- if that's the case, I'll remove Google Analytics.

You might also check that you don't have an extension injecting a script into the page that's doing that. It very well could be a form of spyware. Are you using mobile Chrome? FF?

Mobile chrome. I'll do some diagnostics and a virus scan.

I was thinking he'd done something to his permission settings to disallow GPS.

Since it's mobile Chrome, it seems unlikely to be an extension. I'm not sure how you're getting this, but feel free to keep denying it while we investigate. DLP sincerely doesn't care where your device is and any request for that location is extremely unexpected.

Also, are there any specific pages you see this on? Or is it all pages?

The home page, right when I come in from google or another site.

Edit: A sidenote, it is intermittent. It doesn't ask me every time.

Click the https at the top and see if location is set to ask always.

Well, it says 'Location -- Blocked', but I did just do a refusal of the pop up before posting.

Screenshot_20190407-182606.png It's a chrome thing and not a DLP thing. If I set mine to ask then it will do the same thing it's doing for you. So up to you to set it to allow or not.

I'd still scan your shit I guess. But that's a feature.

Under site settings when you're in settings. I always have mine ask.

It shouldn't be asking at all though. I don't have anything for location when I click on Site Settings.

I also looked through all JS loaded -- none of it references the Geolocation API as far as I can tell.

Well, don't worry about it. I will just keep denying if/when it pops up.
