    I finished Two Unbowed Crows about two weeks ago, and it left a very strong impression on me. I am not necessarily looking for the same plot, pairing, or magical ideas. What I want is another story that creates a similar feeling of watching two people build their relationship, personalities, power, and entire future together.

    The most important requirement is an early starting point.

    Ideally, the story should begin:

    • before Hogwarts;
    • in first year;
    • or in second year.
    Third or fourth year may still work if there is a substantial shared journey ahead. However, I am generally not interested in stories that begin in sixth or seventh year, when the characters are already nearly adults and most of their growth has happened off-page.

    I want to experience the full progression:

    • meeting each other;
    • the first steps toward trust;
    • friendship;
    • ordinary school life and studying together;
    • early dangers;
    • protecting each other;
    • the gradual development of love;
    • growth in magical power;
    • changing personalities and morals;
    • and eventually larger, more adult conflicts.
    What worked for me in Two Unbowed Crows
    The most important part was that Harry and Daphne did not receive a complete relationship immediately. They gradually became the most important person in each other’s lives.

    I especially liked:

    • a relationship growing out of friendship, trust, and mutual protection;
    • several school years spent growing together;
    • both characters remaining capable, important, and reasonably equal;
    • repeatedly rescuing, protecting, and emotionally supporting each other;
    • the romance directly affecting the plot, magic, decisions, and character development;
    • power and intimacy feeling earned;
    • major later scenes working because of the long journey leading to them;
    • the characters becoming an extremely close partnership without losing their individual personalities.
    The central dynamic I am looking for is:

    Violence and gradual moral darkening
    I am not looking for a purely sweet school romance with little serious conflict.

    I am especially interested in stories where the characters gradually:

    • begin using dark or dangerous magic;
    • become stronger through training and real experience;
    • learn to kill or deliberately inflict serious harm on enemies;
    • seek revenge;
    • stop automatically obeying laws and authority figures;
    • make morally difficult decisions;
    • begin dividing people into loved ones, allies, and threats rather than simply Light and Dark;
    • become more ruthless because of their need to protect each other;
    • develop their own goals and view of the world.
    However, this development needs to be gradual and emotionally convincing.

    I do not want a kind eleven-year-old Harry to become a cold murderer within two chapters for no believable reason. I want to see which experiences, losses, threats, and relationships change both characters.

    Violence, murder, revenge, dark magic, torture, and explicit material are acceptable. They may even be important advantages. But I would prefer them to carry emotional weight and consequences rather than existing only to show how “cool and dark” the protagonist is.

    What did not work for me
    After Two Unbowed Crows, I tried We’re In This Together, but stopped at roughly 60,000 words.

    The development felt too easy and too fast. Harry quickly rescued Pansy, learned about his status, gained a home, began gaining power, and entered a relationship with her. The required elements were technically present, but I did not feel enough struggle, emotional weight, outside reaction, or earned progress.

    It felt more like a powerful-Harry story with romance added than a long shared journey between two people.

    Because of that, I am not looking for:

    • a relationship that becomes fully established almost immediately;
    • easy wish fulfillment involving titles, wealth, power, and an ideal partner;
    • an already overpowered protagonist without convincing growth;
    • a relationship that mainly exists for sex or comfort;
    • romance that barely changes the plot or characters;
    • sudden moral darkening without believable causes;
    • constant easy victories without losses, mistakes, or consequences;
    • a story that tells me the characters love each other without making me feel why.
    Preferences
    • Harry Potter only, no crossovers.
    • Preferably 200k+ words, with roughly 100k as the minimum.
    • Complete, or a very substantial ongoing work.
    • Beginning before Hogwarts, in first year, or in second year.
    • Third or fourth year may be acceptable, but is less ideal.
    • A sixth-year, seventh-year, or post-Hogwarts beginning will probably not fit.
    • One well-developed central relationship.
    • Either Harry or a female protagonist is fine.
    • The characters should develop together over a substantial portion of the story.
    • Romance should be one of the main foundations of the fic.
    • Mutual protection, rescue, trust, and shared growth are major advantages.
    • Morally grey or gradually darkening protagonists are preferred.
    • Violence, dark magic, killing, and revenge are welcome if they are integrated into the development.
    • No central M/M relationship.
    • F/F is acceptable, although it is not my preference.
    • A harem is not required, but is not an automatic rejection if one central relationship is still clearly deeper than the others.
    Already tried or excluded
    • Two Unbowed Crows — this is the fic whose emotional effect I am trying to find again.
    • We’re In This Together — stopped at about 60k because the relationship and progression felt too fast and emotionally weightless.
    • Birds and Monsters — I am not interested in reading it.
    • In the Forest of Dean — I am already planning to start it, so there is no need to recommend it.
    • Paid in Blood — already read.
    I understand that there may not be another fic capable of producing exactly the same emotional response. I am not asking for a literal copy of Two Unbowed Crows.

    I am looking for a story where the reader genuinely lives through a significant part of two characters’ lives with them: from the early Hogwarts years and the first signs of trust to love, power, violence, moral transformation, and a major shared future.

    Recommendations would be especially useful if you could briefly explain:

    • which year the story begins in;
    • how many Hogwarts years it covers;
    • how slowly the relationship develops;
    • how important mutual protection is;
    • whether the characters become darker and more ruthless;
    • whether they genuinely change because of each other;
    • and whether violence and major decisions have real consequences.

    This feels very AI generated to me. You also didn't really comment on or acknowledge any of the recommendations you recieved in your last thread. I think that you should learn to use the AO3 filter system, because you could probably get a pretty long list of roughly eligible fics over there without too much trouble.
