"I am making fun of someone's mental illness."

*If I recall, there's suggestions, though nothing definitive, that being transgender has a biological origin with certain brain receptors and so on.

I can find something funny without agreeing with views expressed in a meme. And since when is making fun of biology verboten? I guess teh gay has been around long enough that those jokes are a-ok, trans folks are still under a joke embargo.

Since this requires an explanation.

So in the trans joke post, you've got some wanker being a wanker for the sake of being a wanker. What traces of humour there were are drowned out by the tide of wankerism, until what we're left with is the aftermath - a messy wave of jizz that no one can agree upon how to deal with, or whose fault it really was in the first place.

In the gun violence joke, we're not laughing at the people being gunned down in classrooms, but at Japan and it's stereotype for tentacle porn. Because you know, we're not taking the idea of tentacle porn being the reason for Japan's lack of mass shootings seriously, unlike the wanker who was ejaculating their opinion over what was otherwise a 'feel good' post.

And others are free to disagree with you on that. Funny how that works. If you make beyond shitty jokes, expect snippy responses. As has happened more than a few times now in the past couple of months.

Theoretically? Don't think it is. Practically? It takes a rather skilled comedian to pull off that kind of joke - and usually, there's some membership privilege involved as well, but that's beside the point - and not having it fall as flat as a month-old opened fizzy drink. You are undoubtedly many things, but a skilled comedian - or even a skilled curator of comedic utterances - you are most definitely not. As such, the comedy goes away and all we're left with are the observations that I distilled into two sentences.

"Teh gay." I'll say similar to you as I commented about Oz two months ago: I hope someone is able to protect you so you don't cut yourself on all that edge. (Because it seems to me that you might need it. Lacerations are no joke.)

if you're using them as the punchline in a time when their rights in general are one of the cultural flashpoints in the west - and in US-influenced discourse in particular? It's called time and place. Concepts that your words continue to lead me to believe that you do not particularly seem to understand.

Plus, you know, the actual funniness quotient of the 'joke' in the first place was just about absolute zero.

I think people just don’t get the joke that it’s making fun of the medical terminology and it’s taken this long for the medical textbooks to be updated.

Also, this is the funny thread of DLP. Yeah we have rules and standards, but dark humor has typically been acceptable here.

 

Dark humor is fine, but I think a lot of folks feel that Scott's posts cross the line and aren't funny.
