I'd like to say that I'm almost impressed with how quickly the story went from a 5/5 to a 3/5, but there was nothing quick about it. It was a slow and drawn out death, and it's just so perfectly SpaceBattles that it hurts. Literally the only purpose of the story now is to jerk off to how cool and amazing Emiya is, that and to exposition about random shit that has no actual effect on the story or characters.

 

No one is familiar with anything in the Fate series. If anyone says they are, they're lying.

Doesn't stop people from enjoying it.

I love Mass Effect, hell anyone who visits the gaming threads could probably tell you that about me, I practically shout it from the rooftops. And I love the Nasuverse.

But to be honest... I've lost any and all interest in this story. It's well written from a technical standpoint, the author also does a decent enough job of keeping the characters similar to their canon personalities.

My issue with it is that there is very little overarching plot. For the most part the entire fic post-boot camp is just one emergency after another, and even when I tried to slow down my reading I still couldn't shake the rushed pacing.

And somehow despite every action feeling rushed, the story still progresses at a snail's pace. Chapters 21-26 are essentially one long chase scene, with minor breaks in between.

The overwhelming amount of description, which I loved at the start, has become this fic's greatest fault to me. 500,000+ words, and I honestly couldn't tell you where the plot is going, besides the next emergency. Far too much time is spent describing minor actions, and too little is dedicated to moving the plot forward.

That's just how I feel anyway.

 

I find pacing to be a huge problem in pretty much every Nasuverse xover fic I read.

The all read like diaries to me. Instead of skipping to the protagonists most interesting days, I'm forced to slog through every meaningless second of their existence.

And yes, this includes the countless chapters I'm forced to read regarding the convoluted bs magecraft theory I'm constantly baffled anyone cares about.

I just want a fun read where Shirou spends the entire fic thinking about sucking on Lalter's tiddies. Alert me when that's done kthnx.

 

This is a weird one, the first couple chapters are *insert generic spacebattles crossover here* this is literally hundreds of thousands of wasted words that I still barely comprehend beyond understanding they were jacking it to the idea of Emiya fucking people up. After that it actually got a plot, sort of. Still spacebattles, still ludicrously drawn out but a few more things actually happen. Overall I'll give it a 2/5 just because I occasionally understood what was going on in the later chapters and why that might be significant which is a big stride for this story and for spacebattles in general.

 

It's just so hard to give a shit anymore about an update when I know that it's just going to be everyone jerking off to how cool and awesome and amazing Emiya is.

 

How are the author's other Fate stories?

 

I come back and the first scene in Emiya being so cool, telling Shepard what to do as he is a master hacker and l33t and then she brings up cooking.

I hate this story.

 

It's actually legitimately depressing looking back at my initial view and comparing it to the most recent chapters. The story has become a nonstop circle-jerk that only exists to show off how Emiya is better that literally everyone at literally everything and that he's too pure and too kind to ever fail and let someone die. I honestly don't even know why I bother to read it outside of inertia and boredom at this point, and I kinda feel like if I just dropped it and stopped reading that I wouldn't really notice or care all that much.
