Bit of a bland trailer, but I'm glad they didn't lay out the plot. Black Panther and AM&tW trailers were very guilty of this.

 

This is the real Captain Marvel as far as I'm concerned. Too bad his own movie looks like shit.

 

I don't get the joke, if there is one. How is Shazam Captain Marvel? As in, DC's Marvel?

Trailer is boring as hell. You can do a hype trailer without spoiling stuff. They failed here.

 

There's no joke? He was the original superhero named Captain Marvel, published by Fawcett Comics in the 1940s. DC renaming him Shazam is stupid and Marvel only have a superhero named Captain Marvel (a character they had no idea what to even do with half the time, they just wanted to keep the name because it had the word "Marvel" in it) because of a copyright dispute decades ago.

 

Ah, I didn't know that. Thought there might be backstory I'm not familiar with.

 

Did they officially rename him Shazam at some point? I've only ever heard of him as Captain Marvel, but I've been out of the comics scene for a few years now.

EDIT: I mean the comic title was Shazam, but he was still referred to as Captain Marvel as a character.

 

They renamed him Shazam with the New 52 relaunch. One of a great many mistakes with the New 52.

 

Looks like Fury finally gets some screen time again since Winter Soldier which I consider the best Marvel movie so far.

 

Marvel or DisneyMarvel?

I'm not even sure it's my fav DisneyMarvel movie, but I def preferred Logan and Days.

I think I've cooled a lot on Winter Soldier with time tbh.

 

Of DisneyMarvel I thought Thor Ragnarok and Ant-Man were both better than Winter Soldier, though it's definitely top tier. X-Men 2, Spider-Man 2, Days of Future Past, and Logan are all better than any of the MCU movies, and Blade 2 was better than most of them.

 

I think Homecoming is my fav, but that's my disgusting Spider-man bias.

 

Yeah I liked that one too. Keaton was fking amazing in the scene where he's driving them to the dance.

 

Really? I mean, Ragnarok was great, and that’s mostly Waititi’s stellar directing, but the ant man movies are terrible. Humor just falls flat on its face.

I kinda feel like this trailer doesn't bode too well... Hollywood has trailer-making down to an art form these days, where even the shittiest of movies can be hyped up with a great-looking trailer. So why is the trailer for the centrepiece of the next generation of MCU so... boring? Weird decisions by Marvel on this one.

 

Yes, I agree. The most exciting part was the 90s setting. I don't know if it's my expectations though. This is an origin story coming in the middle of infinity war, but set long before any of the MCU. She's got glowy eyes and hand lasers we've seen before. Who is excited about a disconnected origin story at this phase of the game?

 

I think you're forgetting several infamously bad trailers in recent memory. Granted, a lot of those bad trailers wound up being attached to movies that were just as bad as the trailer. Small surprise the Ghostbusters movie had a bad trailer when the movie itself is widely disliked and flopped at the box office.

 

In my opinion the problem with this trailer is that they didn't feel like they need to do much with it. It's not Suicide Squad that needed a marketing magic to become a hit. It already has the 90-ties nostalgia, old favourites as their younger self, Infinity War post-credit scene hype and it's a first MCU female superhero film. No need to overdo it. The problem will be if the film itself will have the same attitude.
