I've been a comic reader since I was very young, and I always enjoyed Marvel comics the most, specially Spider-Man.

From the thread about the Wolverine movie and other similar discussions I gathered that most of you enjoy comics too, seeing a couple of deadpool fans and a few X-men readers, I thought we could discuss them and their weekly releases in a thread.

Anyway, my first recommendation is the "Marvel What If: Spider-man VS Wolverine", which is almost a year old and I hadn't read, mainly because the original comic, from which this one is a spin-off, is actually pretty bad. Glad I decided to look it up in the end; It's pretty awesome and has quite possibly the most badass spidey ever.

    Also this (spoiler)

I wouldn't mind a second issue, or even some fanfiction based on that.

Anyway, what are you guys reading?

While I've never been an avid comic reader, I drifted away from Marvel because I just got tired of the Marvel characters, such as Spider-Man, Wolverine, etc. But Cable & Deadpool pulled me back into the fold.

I know what you mean. That's one of the problems of running a series lasting for 40 years, and it shone specially bad during the nineties. Awful decade for comics, that one was, with extreme cases of piss-poor writing.

What sucked me back into it was the Ultimate universe; Ultimate Spider-Man and he Ultimates were a refreshing start that didn't involve a retcon, and the possibilities were endless. Then Loeb arrived, and all went downhill, but meh, at least there's still USM.

I guess that from there, I returned to the main canon, but I'm not that much into following the series, as I'm into reading one-shots or miniseries.

And yet, you can't write off the nineties totally. I mean, come on. At least there was some good new property.

The Authority? Ellis' run on Stormfront?
The Invisibles? Kill Your Boyfriend? Flex Mentallo?

Sure, by and large a lot of what was being put out was crap, but that happens. At least Ellis, Morrison, and Moore delivered.

I haven't had much in the way of comic reading here in Europe, but before I left I was only really following 4 main things.

The first was Ultimate Spiderman, I find that entire series to be fantastic. It's a little emo, but there's some great work in their - especially the twisting of the original storyline. The art is pretty good, if a little cartoony, but it's simply fantastic.

Marvel Knights Daredevil was another one I kept my eye on. Or to be more honest, catching up on the missed 5 years or so of the strip (2001 - 2006). It's an amazing series, in a kind of Frank Miller's film noir style with some real deep stories. In case people haven't read it I'll say no more, but I highly recommend looking around for some copies.

Civil War as well. When it was running I obviously read some of the main storylines (Iron Man, Spiderman, Fantastic 4 etc) but I also bought a whole bunch to see how the rest of it was written out. Unsurprisingly, only about a quarter of the entire series was worth reading >_>

Ultimate X-men is something I kept reading avidly until I left as well, it's a good series. Not much more to say though.

Other than that, I kept an eye out on House of M, Black Panther and kept wishing the Hellions would release more and more. New X-men is kind of a teen fantasy in my eyes, so I usually try to avoid it. The Gambit series was really kind of cool, so I have about 20 copies of that in my room.

TMN: I heard about that while skimming through AICN, they gave it a pretty dodgy review. Let me know if it gets any better.

On Marvel, currently I follow the MAX line, specifically the Punisher series they have. It's quite dark.

Off Marvel, I dip into a little of everything. I like the series 'The Walking Dead', 'DMZ', etc. I also recently downloaded a ouple good 90's comic series, Chaos! Comics's 'Evil Ernie' and Valiant's 'Solar, Man of the Atom'.
