Master Eldryn was a great author right up there with Ruskbyte. My favorite at the time. I remember reading all the fics nonjon talked about and another one posted on PotterPlace where Harry controls all of Hogwarts I think he was paired with Narcissa in that one.

When his fics got deleted I sent him a mail asking if he was ever planning to continue, after sometime I got the reply inviting me to join PotterPlace. I don’t think it was the sharing that got to him but other people posting it under their own name Sad he couldn’t stand it can’t blame him either, imagine all your hard work becoming popular under another persons name.

He used to update his fics frequently this is why I refuse to believe he totally stopped writing.

I wish he would come back and write again. I was one of the first people to read his stories and they got me hooked on fanfiction. D.T. was I think his best story.

ch 1, anon. Regardless of whether or not I was 'out of the picture,' you should not have posted or shared my stories without my permission. *shrug* It's that simple.

Some authors don't mind it, going so far as to post a 'distribution' notice in the headers of their stories, but some do. If you don't know who falls into which category and can't get into contact with them, common courtesy is to not share/post/whatever the stories.

And the reason I removed myself from writing HP fan fiction was *because* people were doing things like this (only less politely than you did), even after I'd expressly asked them, repeatedly, to not do it. *That* is the primary reason why my stories are gone.

I do, however, appreciate you willingly removing them. For that, you have my thanks.

Redeemy, I seriously doubt it. Eld was a good author but he is a dick personally.

 

I think he over reacted a bit and I had only one of his fics in passing and honestly ive read better his were good but not the best.

Sorry guys, I have recently had a chance to read a very nice fan fic by Master Eldryn which is named " HP and Tear of Dragon". I like it much having since read a couple of others. He is really good at that, however the file I got not only seemed to be in complete and there seem to be more. I will be glad if someone can send me the copy if you have. It is a shame what people did to Master.

 

And yet you seem to be doing the same. He doesn't want his stories traded, shared, or spread around and you're going on a public forum requesting someone to send you them (something which I seriously doubt will ever happen, even if you weren't a newbie making their first post).

But to save you the effort, odds are you have read all of Dragon's Tear. The fic wasn't finished. None of Eldryn's novel length fics were. That's why it's even more pointless to search out really old, long since abandoned fics.

 

Its a shame about what happened to Eldryn, plagiarism is one of the worst things you can do to an author. However, taking his stories completely out of circulation, even going so far as to want people to never read them again (which is what he has done), is going to far. If he didn't want people to share his files he should have posted them in ONE place and then gave permission to link to it - he could then completely ignore it and everyone would be happy.

Unfortunately I never got the chance to read any of his fics, even though I would have liked to. I will respect his wishes though, and not ask for the files of the fics to be shared with me. Even if they are very good.

I agree with Aekiel that requesting total blackout of his fics was going too far, but that's Eldryn's decision.

Still, that hasn't stopped circulation of his fics. A simple google search of his name will provide one with a dump for all his fics.

It's a real shame when readers violate an author's wishes like that. But really, it's unreasonable to expect the internet to just delete itself of any work. Once it goes public, that's it. There's no stopping the sharing of information.

 

I respect his decision to pull his work, but it still seems like he was over reacting. OK being plagiarized sucks, but by the sound of it someone of his popularity should have easily been able to put a stop to it.

I feel bad that people were taking his fics and posting them on other sites, but as long as you(the author) still get credit I don't think it is a big deal. Nevertheless I can see why this could be annoying and respect his whishes even if I do think that he was overreacting.

Its only a shame that I never got a chance to read these as I was not a active member of the Harry Potter fan fic community at the time.

On topic: I wasn't around at the time of Master Eldryn's fictions, so I don't have much to say. I find it exaggerated to throw a fit because people like his work so much; I mean, as long as he gets the credit for it--and by the sound of it, he does--it's more flattering than anything.

Anyway... apart from my question, nothing that haven't been already said...

 

That's just stupid. Do the admins even chck the story before its deleted? Its like TV shows that get cancelled because 12 people complained (Actually happened over here in the UK). Do we know what reason he put for the complaint?

 

The amount of stories on ff.net, coupled with the amount of complaints actually do not really allow for checking of the stories that are complained about. Coupled with them nearly becing shut down way back when, when the sight still allowed NC-17 rated fics, they suually take fics that are compained about really really fast. And good luck geting in touch with the admins to complain or ask way...
