There isn't a particular story that I"m looking for, per se, but rather a concept. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good stories where Harry decides that instead of surrendering the Elder Wand to Albus Dumbledore's memory and grave he keeps it for himself and goes on to be Master of Death.

Other than that I don't truly care if it's time travel or AU or whatever else.

Hallows and Pathos comes to mind off the top of my head. It's short but awesome.

 

Here, you go. Not exactly what you're looking for, but Harry does become the Master of Death at the end. It's an excellently written story with a brilliant portrayal of a crazy Hermione and a very nicely crafted dark environment.

Coming Back Late. It is H/Hr though it is very well written and quite creative in some respects in others well...Meh, I like it anyway. Basically, Harry becomes the Master of Death because he has no way of getting rid of the Hallows, and thus he hides from the world and eventually seeks a way to destroy them once and for all though they do have a lasting effect on him.

Also, I have read another one in which Harry says to Dumbledore "You will not best me in mastery of the Hallows" or something like that. Just to put it out there.

I think you're looking for Catharsis. The particular line you mentioned is from chapter 11, during the middle of Harry and Dumbledore's duel.

He's said it's going to be slash. Why would I begin a story, knowing I won' finish it, because there's slash in it? And its not anything special so it doesn't make me want to read it.

 

The authors makes a whole lot of new stories that he never finishes. I doubt there will be updates anytime soon, so no slash. There's a couple of interesting ideas in this story, but it's really an average story.
