Yeah, so I just watched the Max Payne movie. It was pretty good. Not on par with, say, Hitman or any of those other Book -> Game -> Movie transitions perhaps; but good none the less.

While I was watching, it hit me. You could substitute the guns with wands, the bullets (and swords) with curses/jinxes/et cetera, and the characters with Harry Potter characters.

    Max Payne = Harry Potter
BB Hensley = Albus Dumledore (though I'm sure this goes against such clichés as manipulative!Dumbledore and evil!Dumbledore)
Jack Lupino = Voldemort (maybe...I can envision it as a possibility, but a slim one)
Mona Sax = Daphnie Greengrass (or perhaps Pansy Parkinson)
Michelle Payne = Hermione Granger (or, for those of us that dislike Harry/Hermione (even in passing), one of the Patil twins or a Hufflepuff)
Alex Balder = Neville Longbottom (it has...possibilities)
Jason Colvin = Remus Lupin (or would another Order member be better?)
Lt. Jim Bravura = Mad Eye Moody (or Shacklebolt perhaps?)
Lincoln DeNeuf (even if he had all of two minutes screen time) = Theo Nott (see the stigma I'm going for here? Slytherin = crime lords, bosses, or other sycophants)

The only person I cannot match up with someone from HP is Nicole Horne.

Anyway, I imagine this all as a post-Hogwarts, ignoring Half-Baked Plot and Deathly Hacks, pre-End-of-Voldemort story.

Oh, and since I came up with the idea, I don't get to write it. Rules of the trade, or some such rot.

Thoughts? Ideas? Bar-B-Q? Vegitable tossing time?

A crossover based on the game? Hell yes!

But a crossover based on that piece of shit they call a movie? Never!

    Harry casts Bullet Time!
Harry shoots Death Eater for 50 damage.

I'm not sure, but whenever I think of this concept I see scrolling combat text and some kid with a PS2 controller.

I was watching a movie review show recently (not sure which) that was doing a recap of 2008's worst movies. This was #1, homie. Of course, I played the old Max Payne and all I can remember was the super epic moment when my character was in the Subway tunnel and I heard a scraping noise from somewhere behind him. I turned him around and within a second he was mauled by a train.

The premise for Max Payne is what? Like, his wife and child gets murdered and he tracks down the killers (who are still trying to kill him, of course) in a bloody ball of carnage and awesome? That would make a decent HP crossover, I suppose. But not each character from the HP series as someone from the MP series--that shit never works.

    ^ I admit, I lol'd.

I guess, in the sense of liking this movie and never having played the games, I do have bad taste in movies. So what? I'm the only one that has to watch them.

The story of Max Payne is a comic book. There just happens to be a game that goes with it.

Seeee, you learn new shit everyday. I don't personally know anything about the movie, but it seems like the critics would. That doesn't necessarily make or break it, of course, but the fact that Mark Whalberg is lead character, does break it.

Fuck Max Payne! Motherfucking game ruined my life for 2months because you reach a level which is ridiculously impossible. Seriously. Your character is in a dream or something and has to walk some very tight ledges. And you fall. All the time. So to finish off this circle of fail ... Fuck Max Payne!

Lawl. Looks like someone holds a grudge against the Max Payne game.

And I think I know that level you're talking about - I got past that just fine, lol. Did you try and consult a walkthrough?

Do you like the movie "romeo must die". Same principle applies to OP's idea.

Militis: Seriously, go back and play the games (the sequel"Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne" was also excellent). They deserve recognition just for being the first games to successfully implement slo-mo as a gameplay mechanic, and damned if they didn't do it well.

Tehan: Maybe I'm just fondly looking back through rose-tinted glasses, but I remember Max Payne being one of my favourite games of all time. The weird occult shit at the beginning of the game was harrowingly compulsive for my then thirteen-years-old-self and who can forget the brilliant shoot-out in the construction yard in Max Payne 2?

ahsun92: Fucking LOL. Yes with all the good came the bad and you're quite right, the dream sequences (you had to do it about another 3 times throughout the series) were horrifically annoying. If you got stuck in the first one, the weird green maze, the general rule was keep taking left turns. Eventually you'd find a way out.

I've got to agree. The premise of Max Payne was that a cop completely abandons the law and basically goes on an unstoppable rampage through the underworld, the police and the MIC to find out the truth about his wife and child's murder. Perhaps you could do an Auror!Harry fic that starts of with him coming home to find Ginny and the kids offed in suspicious circumstances and let him loose. It could have promise.

Whoa! I loved Max Payne, but when I first got my Xbox and Max Payne copy at age 11, annoying hard levels were passed down to me.

I was the family member who did all the hard bits. Older brother is a stupid fag who kept on making it more difficult, like using all the painkillers at dumbfuck moments.

What console was it on? I'll see if I can find it. (I've never played the games, but I'm not really ashamed to admit it...I never was big into console gaming.)

If I did this, it wouldn't be Ginny who was his wife...

Xbox, no wonder I never played it.

Fuck that shit. The day Microsoft threw their hat in the console-gaming arena (they've always had their sticky fingers in the PC gaming industry), is the day whatever console-gamer that was inside me died.

If it was Playstation, I might have been able to rent a copy and emulate it - and N64 and Gamecube are notoriously easy to emulate (on Windows at least...haven't tried Linux) - but Xbox emulators for Linux are non-existent.

Honestly, is too much fucking work to punch "Max Payne" into google?
