"Memento" styled story?

After watching it last night, I've been wondering if a story, being told in the style of the movie "Memento" would work.

If you haven't seen it yet, basically, the movie is told in two separate narratives that alternate. One narrative is told in reverse chronological order, while the other one is told chronologically. At the climax of the movie, the two narratives converge into one.

Of course there would have to be several factors that come in. I don't think that an action adventure story would fit very well into this kind of narrative, and a mystery fiction might be best.

So what are your guys' thoughts? Think that this would work? Would it be too complicated? Would readers lose interest in one narrative in favour of the other?

I think Memento was based on a story, so I guess it's possible to write it. The problems are:

    1) The purpose. That style was used to demonstrate the main character's memory loss. Without that, there's no need to use it.

    2) The plot. Need to be condensed and well thought out. Thriller definitely. Few FF authors are capable of that.

Soo... I'd say forget it and leave Memento alone.

True, I think I was more curious to if, and how it could work in stories. I suppose that the narrative style would be something extra, and not really needed to tell story. Potentially, it could get real clunky as the two narratives converged.

Bah, no I just need someone really talented to make this work. :D
