Another season is finished. On the one hand I'm quite happy how much they changed the status quo in these thirteen episodes:

like making Arthur the king, Gwen becoming his queen, getting Excalibur out of stone and so on.

    On the other:

I'm getting tired of Merlin hiding his magic from Arthur. It should have ended not long after Uther's death and definitely before the end of the last episode of this season. Right now I'm hoping that they decided to save it as a game changer for the beginning of the next one, as they did with killing Uther in this one.

New season is up, standard Merlin, nothing spectacular.

I lol'd when I saw the blue alien(?) thingy. (Not sure what the fuck it was.)

Other than that the next episode seems highly interesting, but Merlin never really lived up to expectations.

I remember laughing a lot more than usual during the premiere. Maybe I was just tired.

I'm sure just about everyone had an Indiana Jones flashback during Merlin this week.

Not a bad beginning of the new season. Mordred's introduction suggests that it may also be the final one and I think I once saw some actors confirming it.

But if that's true then I want Merlin to reveal his magic somewhere in the middle of this season and definitely not in the last episode. I want to watch how Arthur's behavior would change after learning how much he owes to his servant and seeing what he really is capable of. Or better yet, to see how ultimately he would still treat him like he did in all these years, much to Merlin's chagrin.

I'm glad the director finally seems to be getting tired of doing close-ups on Morgana's evil smirk.

One can only take so much smirkage.

So, it's confirmed. This is the final season.

And it seems that we will not see the reveal before the big finale. What a wasted opportunity for some fresh stories to tell before the series ends.

Shame, but they are playing the Gwen thing out pretty well despite its rather dubious beginnings, though I'll be rather pissed if they make it some 'oooh shes enchanted' bollocks.

I'm really hoping for a good magic vs magic showdown before it's over because it's getting slightly annoying to see both Merlin and Morgana getting knocked out whenever they get jumped by one another. I know it's to preserve Merlin's secret; but they seriously need to get it over with already.

Gwen's playing the betrayal thing way better than Morgana did. Gwen just smiles sweetly at Merlin while Morgana had an evil smirk on her face the whole damn time.

P.S. She probably is enchanted; and I think Morgana might play up Gwen's loyalty to Arthur causing the need for enchantment; solving the mystery and redeeming Gwen in one go.

Just watched the last weekend episode. It's just two more and it's over.

And from the look of it, there is a possibility that there will be no big reveal of Merlin's magic or at best it will be in the last minutes of the last episode. I know that the writers have their own story to tell, one that doesn't include any adventures in Camelot where magic is not forbidden anymore, but come on. They were teasing it from the very beginning of the series and they plan to not deliver?

    Thoughts about the grand finale.

It says something about how much I liked this take on these characters that I really wanted it to end differently to the original legend. But it didn't.

I still think that the show would benefit from Arthur learning about Merlin's magic earlier, but I can agree that it worked well to give the finale even more emotional context.

Also, I think the Great Dragon was a little mistaken when he said that all things from the Prophecy came to pass, because Arthur didn't bring the magic back to Camelot.

All in all, even with its faults, it was a good finale that didn't disappoint too much.

Well, I liked the finale, although my biggest pet peeve remained.

I don't know if it's because of budget or what, but once again Morgana's first defeat is simply her screaming "Emrys!" before promptly being knocked unconscious. Her death was a sword through the chest as she calmly takes it, thinking it won't kill her.

No big Morgana vs Merlin battle at all. The finale catered to the female audience with the emotional acceptance between Arthur and Merlin and his death. Great scenes for sure, but I still wanted some sort of Morgana vs Merlin showdown before it all came to an end.

As for the series. I feel like some things were rushed to much like Morgana's corruption and Arthur learning about Merlin's magic. While other things took far to long like Uther's death and Arthur's crowning.

I feel like they took the easy way out ending it the way they did. Just fell back on legend instead of keeping with the 'not-your-average-merlin' theme.

Oh well. I'm glad it's over regardless. One less show to keep track of.

This show got boring ages ago. Too many situations contrived to continue keeping Merlin's magic a secret from Arthur. And, sadly, Morgana was a disappointing character. (Not that other characters were a particularly shining example, either.) What had started out as a fun show quickly became improbable and boring.

That said, I'll still see the finale, even if I fast forward through most of it.
