Evran does want to be on XP, but unfortunately HP is fucking him and every other customer around. Sure, you can downgrade to XP for free, but HP is under no obligation to give you sound, video, or wifi Windows XP drivers.

This article is 18 months old, but it still appears to be just as true today as it was then. HP driver dance: From Vista to XP, you're on your own.

What Jolly said. I've just taken the plunge into Linux Mint and so far its great, things load when I want them to, I'm not wasting RAM on gash processes Vista makes me use and I'm enjoying not being told to update Anti Virus protection every three days and Synaptic is a brilliant piece of software that will sort you out with anything you need.

Well I'm on the laptop now, so everything seems to be going great so far, if things get shitty, I'll defect to ubuntu. Does anyone know how to fix a limited to no connectivity problem on a wired ethernet card?

One thing that's often overlooked is the cable itself. I've had issues which could be traced to a dodgy network cable. Swapped the cable, problem solved.

Well, its probably a driver, but the device says its working properly, the cable works fine, using right now for my desktop, and I dont have a firewall. Its a cable modem hooked directly to my pc and it works, just not for my laptop. And I can't find another driver for a Nvidia nforce networking controller excpet from hp, which is currently on.

Seeing as we're talking about it, here's a lulzy Ubuntu distro.
